Marin County Officials Seize More Than a Dozen Weapons From Residents Prohibited from Owning Firearms
In an operation involving the district attorney's office, the Marin County Probation Department and local law enforcement, officials searched the homes of 12 people on the January 2014 state list, District Attorney Ed Berberian said.

More than a dozen weapons were seized this month from people in Marin County who are legally prohibited from owning firearms during compliance checks, according to District Attorney Ed Berberian.
The compliance checks, conducted between Feb. 18 and 20, targeted people listed on a state database who are prohibited from possessing firearms due to domestic violence convictions or restraining orders, felony convictions, mental health-related commitments and other issues.
In an operation involving the district attorney's office, the Marin County Probation Department and local law enforcement, officials searched the homes of 12 people on the January 2014 state list, Berberian said.
Three of those people were found to possess firearms including seven handguns, four rifles, two shotguns and boxes of ammunition. Seven of those weapons came from one individual who was on the list due to a mental health commitment, Berberian said.
All of the weapons were confiscated.
Berberian said his department plans to continue to do randomized, periodic checks on those prohibited from owning firearms within the limits of available resources.
