Man Walks Into His House While it's Being Robbed

Suspects dart away with computer and cell phone, and Novato victim tracks them to Richmond.

A Novato burglary victim tracked the location of his stolen goods via his cell phone Friday to help locate two suspects in Richmond, but the suspects evaded pursuing officers, police said.

A 28-year-old Novato man walked into his home while it was being robbed at 9:10 a.m. in the 1500 block of Armstrong Avenue on Novato's east side, according to Lt. Keith Heiden. Two suspects, both black men in their 20s, pushed their way past the man while carrying a laptop computer. After the men drove away, the man discovered that his cell phone was missing as well.

Novato police responded to the home and the man used another computer to pinpoint the location of his cell phone as the suspects drove their silver Pontiac Grand Am into Richmond, Heiden said.

Police in Richmond were notified and Novato detectives headed over the bridge, locating the Pontiac. But the driver evaded the Novato officers and then abandoned the car, which later was found to be stolen, Heiden said. Richmond officers used police dogs to try and track the suspects to no avail.

The suspects were described as black men in the 20s with medium builds, one 6-foot to 6-4 and one 5-8 to 6 feet. Anyone with more information can assist police by calling 897-4361 or 897-1122 after regular office hours.
