Man Suspected of Stabbing Roommate Last Week Faces New Charges

San Marin area resident violated restraining order to stay away from man and home.

A 50-year-old Novato man arrested Oct. 29 and on suspicion of using anti-gay epithets before stabbing another man faces additional charges after he violated a restraining order to stay away from the man he stabbed, police said.

Scott Frederick Matzke was arrested at on Oct. 29 two blocks from his home, following a violent argument with his roommate, according to Officer Oliver Collins. Matzke, a mechanic, stabbed the man once with a knife, causing injuries that were not life-threatening, Collins said. Matzke allegedly used homosexual epithets in the act, causing police to tack on a hate crime enhancement charge.

On Nov. 2, Matzke was arrested at the home in the 200 block of San Marin Drive in violation of a restraining order to stay away from the home and the roommate, said Lt. John McCarthy. Police arrived at the home at about 11 p.m. that night to find the two men arguing.
