Man Leaves Safeway Without Paying for Cart of Groceries

Selected calls from the Novato PD log books, Feb. 16-20

Feb. 16 

11:50 a.m. – Two 14-year-old students involved in a fight were cited for assault and battery at San Marin High School.    

11:58 a.m. – A burglary was reported in the 400 block of Ignacio Boulevard.  Unknown suspect(s) entered the victims locked vehicle and stole the victim’s stereo.

12:42 p.m. – A subject was transported from San Marin High School and booked at Marin County Jail for public drunkenness.  Subject was too intoxicated to care for himself.  Subject smoked marijuana and possibly consumed Valium. 

3:02 p.m. – A juvenile disturbance was reported in the parking lot fronting the Nautilus of Marin.  One juvenile reportedly yelled that there was a fight.  Reporting party did not see weapons.  A large group was disbursing upon officer arrival.

3:17 p.m. – A verbal disturbance was reported at the 7-11 store on Diablo Avenue.  Three black girls were arguing with an employee and were refusing to leave.  Officer(s) contacted all parties.  The girls were upset because they felt the shop owner was picking on them because of their race.  A verbal argument ensued.  The girls were advised not to return.

7:35 p.m. – An upstairs apartment fire on Hathaway Drive led to the arrest of a mother for child endangerment.  The mother was booked and Child Protective Services took custody of the children. 

9:16 p.m. – A felony warrant arrest was made at the Wyndover Apartments on the 800 block of Diablo Avenue. 

Feb. 17 

10:32 a.m. – A welfare check was requested for a 14-year-old girl at Hill Middle School.  Staff noticed a suicidal posting on her Facebook page while investigating another incident.  The girl admitted she made the comment out of frustration but had no plans or thoughts to do it. 

2:31 p.m. – A vehicle hit and run was reported on the 1300 block of Lynwood Drive.  The victim noted a transfer of white paint on her car and stated that she had seen a white truck when she parked her vehicle.  

3:36 p.m. – A man entered the Safeway on Diablo Avenue and walked out of the store with a full cart of groceries without paying.  The man was witnessed loading the items into a parked vehicle.  A vehicle description and California license plate information was provided.  The investigation is ongoing. 

4:03 p.m. – An animal related violation was reported by a resident on Boulevard Court.  The reporting party stated that a neighbor was letting his dog defecate on his property.  The neighbor has been contacted but he is not cleaning it up.  An officer spoke with the dog owner and he states that he will amicably work out the issue with the reporting party. 

5:21 p.m. – A subject reported having a problem with an employee at the Shell gas station on South Novato Boulevard.  The subject complained that the employee was refusing to sell beer to his friend.  The subject threatened the employee.  The subject was arrested for making criminal threats and was transported to the Marin County Jail. 

5:23 p.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported in the 1300 block of Olive Avenue.  Black spray paint was used to put gang related tags on a fence. 

Feb. 18 

9:04 a.m. – A civil dispute was reported in the 200 block of San Marin Drive.  A Novato resident has been paying the reporting party for house cleaning with bad checks.  The reporting party was contacted by the subject yesterday who threatened to call immigration to stop the reporting party from collecting money.  Advice was given to the reporting party on how to proceed.

9:54 a.m. – A subject in the 1700 block of Marion Avenue was booked into juvenile hall for vandalism. 

12:53 p.m. – A report of assault and battery was taken at San Marin High School after one student hit a girl in the back of the head with a rock.  The student was suspended from school for three days.

2:09 p.m. – Extra patrols were requested in the vicinity of San Jose Middle School after it had been reported that a public fight was to occur in the area after school.  Officers maintained a high presence and visibility during the student pickup period.  No incidents were observed.

4:36 p.m. – A man was cited for vandalism and a probation violation after kicking his father's door in on the 800 block of Tamalpais Avenue. 

6:05 p.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported on the 1300 block of Grant Avenue.  A brick wall was vandalized with black spray paint. 

7:42 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the 200 block of Alameda del Prado.  The victim’s vehicle was broken into by smashing the driver’s side window.  Loss is unknown at this time. 

9:21 p.m. – A subject was cited for selling alcohol to minors in the 300 block of Enfrente Road. 

Feb. 19

12:43 p.m. – A reporting party at Novato Community Hospital requested that an uncooperative woman be taken to Marin Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) for evaluation.  The woman was found naked in a room at the Travel Lodge and was determined to be gravely disabled and unable to care for herself. The subject was transported to Marin PES. 

6:23 p.m. – A 16-year-old Hispanic boy was reported seen with vomit all over himself in the 7300 block of Redwood Boulevard.  The juvenile was issued a citation for public drunkenness and released to his father.

7:08 p.m. – A subject at the Wyndover Apartments on Diablo Avenue was arrested for two outstanding warrants and booked into Marin County Jail. 

8:36 p.m. – A subject on Buena Vista was cited for probation violation and possession of marijuana and released. 

10:12 p.m. – A suspicious subject was reported in a restaurant in the 700 block of Seventh Street.  A white man approximately 23 years of age was reportedly selling narcotics in the restaurant.  He then started yelling at customers.  The subject was gone on arrival and was unable to be located.

Feb. 20 

4:44 a.m. – A subject was arrested for driving under the influence in the vicinity of Grant Avenue and Redwood Boulevard.  The subject was transported and booked into the Marin County Jail.

8:09 a.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported in the vicinity of Fourth Street and Romar Court.  The graffiti appeared to be gang related. 

2:58 p.m. – A suspected grow house was reported by a person listing a rental property in the 2000 block of Vineyard Road.  Tenants have changed the locks and are not willing to allow the reporting party to inspect the residence.  A marijuana grow was at the residence however all plants were taken prior to arrival.  The case will be forwarded and investigated by the Marin Major Crimes Task Force. Advice was given regarding gaining legal access. 

3:24 p.m. – The CVS Pharmacy in the 2000 block of Novato Boulevard reported having an ongoing issue with a juvenile stealing alcohol.  They have captured her on security videos numerous times.  Last night she came in and stole a bottle of rum and a bottle of Canadian Mist.

5:49 p.m. – A vehicle was burglarized in the parking lot in front of Costco on Vintage Way.  A laptop and phone charging cords were stolen from the victims vehicle. 

7:07 p.m. – An unwanted subject was repeatedly asked to leave the Viking Lounge on Redwood Boulevard.  The subject was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail for public drunkenness. 

11:35 p.m. – A woman in the 1600 block of Hill Road reported that when her daughter was outside a male subject gave her marijuana.  She stated that her daughter may know the name and number of the subject but will not give it to her. An unknown friend who lives in the area gave the daughter a very small amount of marijuana.  The marijuana was disposed of and the mother requested no further action and was just seeking advice.
