Man Jailed After Bar Fight, Resisting Arrest

Police officer kicked by handcuffed suspect after altercation outside of Brown's Binyerd in downtown Novato.

A 30-year-old man was arrested for battery on a police officer after he kicked a Novato cop following a bar brawl Saturday night, police said.

An officer driving past the bar on First Street heard commotion in the parking lot and came across a fight at 9:52 p.m., Novato police Lt. Dave Jeffries said. A fight between two bar patrons was broken up and David Anthony Meyer, who would not provide a home address to police, was taken into custody in handcuffs.

While he was taken to a patrol car, he kicked one of four police officers who responded and had to be restrained by other means, Jeffries said.

Meyer, a warehouse worker, was booked at Marin County Jail on suspicion of battery on a police officer, obstruction of justice/resisting arrest and public intoxication, all of which are misdemeanors. Later it was discovered that he was on parole, and a felony state hold for a parole violation was added to the potential charges, Jeffries said.
