Man in Search of Some Shorts is Arrested

The following information from May 23-26 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner: 

May 23, 6:12 p.m. – A woman in the 1200 block of Lynwood Drive reported that an unknown man knocked on her rear patio door and asked for a pair of shorts.  She said that the man had a coat wrapped around his waist.  She described him as white, about 40 years old, with black hair and a dark colored coat and black shoes.  The woman went to get her husband when the man had left.  She did not see his direction of travel. 

6:30 p.m. – A man had come into a reporting party’s backyard in the 1100 block of Midway Court.  The man asked for water and some shorts and he had a jacket tied around his waist.  He is now at a neighbor’s house across the street.  The man was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, a probation violation, and trespassing.

May 23 

7:27 a.m. – A burglary was reported at San Marin High School.  Unknown(s) broke into the high school kitchen and a classroom.  A brick and a 12-by-12 utility cover were thrown through a window.  Some computers appear to have been moved around.  The loss is undetermined at this time.  The investigation is ongoing.

11:04 a.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported in the vicinity of Bolling Circle and Hutchins Way.  The reporting party said that while he was working on a tower at the end of Bolling Circle he had heard four gunshots from the hill behind March Field Court.  The area was checked and officer(s) were unable to locate any evidence of a gun being fired in the area. 

11:30 a.m. – A burglary was reported at a business in the Del Prado Shopping Center in the 500 block of Alameda Del Prado.  Unknown(s) broke into the business overnight and took $120.  The reporting party believes that an ex-employee could be a suspect. 

1:33 p.m. – A grand theft was reported on Scottsdale Way.  The reporting party said that a brass plaque had been taken off a rock that was located next to the gazebo.  It is unknown when the theft occurred.  The loss is approximately $500. 

2:45 p.m. – A reporting party said that he saw a young man in the vicinity of Novato Boulevard and Tamalpais Avenue walking toward Grant Avenue with a rattlesnake in his hands. He said that the man was about 19 or 20 and was wearing gloves. for a full story on this incident. 

9:10 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the 800 block of Tamalpais Avenue.  The reporting party said that unknown(s) had broken into her storage locker and taken items.  The theft occurred sometime between today and the last week. 

11:12 p.m. – Found property was reported in the 800 block of Tamalpais.  Needles and medical equipment was found dumped in the creek area. 

May 24 

4:09 a.m. – Vandalism was reported at Sinaloa Middle School on Vineyard Road. 

8:59 a.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported at Novato High School on Arthur Street.  The reporting party said that a student who had been making threats has been detained in the office.  The student is upset but is cooperative. 

9:25 a.m. – San Marin High School requested officer assistance with a student who has a history of being out of control. 

10:21 a.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported in the 1000 block of First Street.  Two men in dark blue shirts were trying to fight with a tow truck driver who had radioed the reporting party.  None of the parties requested assistance after officer(s) arrived. 

11:34 a.m. – A fraud was reported by a woman in the 2300 block of Center Road.  The woman said that a person called her and said that her grandson had been arrested and needed money.  She sent $4,000 to the Dominican Republic.  She later learned that her grandson had never been arrested. 

3:17 p.m. – Unwanted subject(s) were reported at Hamilton Meadow Park School on Main Gate Road.  The principal of the school just advised a reporting party that five girls from San Jose Middle School showed up looking for an unknown juvenile to fight.  The girls were believed to be on Tiner Way.  Officer(s) contacted the girls and one was cited for making a disturbance. 

4:17 p.m. – A petty theft was reported at San Jose Middle School on Sunset Parkway.  A phone was stolen from a girl’s backpack while at school.  The GPS device on the phone shows it to be in the vicinity of Lynwood Park.  The reporting party was in route to try and locate it. 

11:37 p.m. – A welfare check was requested for a man in the 800 block of Atherton Avenue who said he had been drinking and cannot find his way home.  The man was contacted who appeared intoxicated but did not meet the criteria for being drunk in public.  A taxi service gave him a ride home. 

May 25 

7:15 a.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 1600 block of Center Road.  The reporting party said that his roommate had been drinking and was throwing stuff around.  He also had sprayed the reporting party’s room with a fire extinguisher.  The roommate was placed under citizen’s arrest for destroying the victim’s property.  The damage was estimated at $300.  He was also found to be in suspicion of violating his Marin County probation and was booked into Marin County Jail. 

3:17 p.m. – Two elderly ladies that had been on foot came into the Marin Color Service on Grant Avenue and said that they were lost.  They did not have identification or purses with them and they did not know their addresses.  Officer(s) determined that they resided on Tamalpais Avenue and transported them back home. 

4:39 p.m. – A reporting party driving on Scottsdale Way said that a group of three boys are hiding behind a fence on Redwood Boulevard and are throwing unknown substances at vehicles passing by.  One of them hit the reporting party in the head.  Officer(s) contacted all parties.  The boys were admonished and nothing further was requested of police. 

4:59 p.m. – Vandalism was reported on Landing Court.  A 6-foots-square window was shattered.  The manager of the property advised that the incident occurred approximately two weeks ago. 

5:29 p.m. – An aggravated assault was reported in the 200 block of Rockport Way.  The reporting party said that a girlfriend slapped the reporting party during a dispute in the carport area.  The reporting party said that the girl friend is inebriated and that the reporting party’s two children are on the scene.  The woman had fled in a red Nissan pickup toward Redwood Boulevard.  A warrant was issued for the woman on suspicion of assault, domestic battery, intimidating a witness, and injury to a cohabitant.  No emergency protection order was requested. 

8:26 p.m. – A robbery was reported on Hutchins Way.  The reporting party said that he was at a friend’s house when someone started pounding on a door.  A friend had opened the door and a man who went by the name of “Slick” from Vallejo held a knife to the reporting party and demanded his wallet and cell phone.  The man was described as Hispanic, about 23 years old, and he was last seen wearing a dark sweatshirt and jeans. 

May 26 

6:02 a.m. – A hit-and-run misdemeanor was reported in the 700 block of Cherry Street.  The reporting party said that a white vehicle struck her vehicle and fled westbound on Olive Avenue.  The area was checked for the vehicle but could not be located.  Debris located on the scene suggests that the suspect vehicle is a 1991 Nissan Altima with front-end damage. 

7:23 a.m. – A reporting party said that there is a man in a white Ford Bronco with front-end damage in the vicinity of Entrada Drive and Ignacio Boulevard.  The reporting party said that it appears that the driver hit a light pole.  The driver was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence. 

10:14 a.m. – A burglary was reported in the 100 block of Albion Court.  The reporting party said that two bags had been taken from her locked car overnight.  Unknown(s) stole jewelry, clothing, makeup and a camera from a VW Jetta. 

1:11 p.m. – A fraud was reported in the 800 block of Sutro Avenue.  The reporting party said that while refinancing his home he found that an identity theft had occurred via his credit report.  Unknown(s) in Houston had used the reporting party’s name and Social Security number to open fraudulent accounts.  

3:06 p.m. – A party on Cielo Lane who said that gas had been siphoned from his vehicle overnight requested extra patrols in the area. 

5:27 p.m. – Vandalism was reported on Tahoe Circle.  A reporting party said that he saw three teenage boys running from a residence after he heard a window being smashed.  One was last seen wearing a black wool cap and a red flannel shirt.  They were last seen running toward Gateway Circle. 

7:14 p.m. – A burglary was reported at the Lucky supermarket on Grant Avenue.  A 16-year-old girl was observed concealing a bottle of alcohol in a purse.  The girl was cited and released to a parent. 

7:22 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the 200 block of Sunset Drive.  The reporting party said that two vacant Coast Guard houses had been broken into. The rear window of one of the residences is broken.  Unknown(s) gained entry into a vacant residence through an unlocked window.  Once inside, the unknown(s) broke light fixtures and some windows.  Total estimated damages are $550. 

7:44 p.m. – A homeless encampment was reported in the vicinity of Golden Gate Place near the Golden Gate Transit employee parking lot.  A plastic tarp or tent, and a man wearing black clothing were observed in the area.  Officer(s) made contact with the man who was advised to pack his possessions and leave the area. 

9:01 p.m. – A neighbor approached a reporting party’s daughter and spoke to her. The woman had a restraining order that was still in effect.  The reporting party said that the woman had violated it.  The woman was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of violating a court order. 

10:39 p.m. – A man was arrested and booked for suspicion of driving under the influence in the vicinity of Seventh Street and Grant Avenue. 

10:56 p.m. – An assault with a deadly weapon was reported at an apartment in the vicinity of Alameda Del Prado and Ignacio Boulevard.  A person was stabbed in the chest while visiting an apartment on Ignacio Boulevard.  The victim is a patient being given medical attention. 11:50 p.m. – A person driving in the 200 block of Alameda Del Prado was arrested and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, and for having two outstanding Sonoma County warrants.
