Man Found Sleeping on Railroad Tracks

The following information from July 12-15 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner: 

July 14, 3:22 a.m. – A homeless person was reported sleeping on the railroad tracks in the vicinity of the 7600 block of Redwood Boulevard.  Officer(s) contacted the man who said he was waiting for his girlfriend to get a room and then he had fallen asleep. 

July 12

2:48 a.m. – A person was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of driving while under the influence in the vicinity of Third Street and Grant Avenue. 

3:49 a.m. – A petty theft was reported on Plaza Loma.  The reporting party said that an unknown man was going through her vehicle that was parked in her driveway.  Her roommate chased the subject out of the driveway.  The unknown man was described by the reporting party as a white man in his 30s and was last seen wearing baggy jeans with white back pockets.  He was seen heading toward the Hill Education Center.

4:08 a.m. – One person was cited and released in the vicinity of Third Street and Grant Avenue on suspicion of being in possession of marijuana. 

9:52 a.m. – A woman who had reportedly been drinking all night at a friend’s house on Fig Tree Lane left in her vehicle.  It was believed she was headed for Napa where she lives.  The woman was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public, resisting arrest, and battery on a police officer. 10:28 a.m. – A burglary was reported at a doctor’s office at 400 Professional Center Drive.  Unknown(s) entered a secure area of the victim’s office and stole four bottles of a controlled substance.   

1:15 p.m. – A fraud was reported in the 1400 block of Grant Avenue.  A customer got a call to purchase a money card for a sweepstakes win.  The loss was $5,500. 

2:50 p.m. – A woman driving near the Costco tire center was seen to have driven into an island twice.  She was also seen weaving on Highway 101.  The woman was arrested and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence. 

5:03 p.m. – A 41-year-old man in the 1500 block of South Novato Boulevard had reportedly drunk a half bottle of rubbing alcohol.  The reporting party said that the man is unresponsive.  The man was transported to the psychiatric ward of Marin General Hospital and put on a 72-hour hold for evaluation. 

8:42 p.m. – A white woman about 19 years old was reported drunk in public in the 200 block of Marin Valley Drive.  The reporting party had first seen her sitting on the curb with her legs in the street.  When the reporting party saw her again she was staggering toward a nearby deli.  Officer(s) contacted the deli workers who said an unknown person in a blue car had picked her up.  All were advised to contact police if she was seen on foot again. 

9:22 p.m. – Domestic violence was reported in the 100 block of South Palm Drive after a woman said that her husband had pusher her and hit her.  The man was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery. 

11:58 p.m. – Public drunkenness was reported in the 1300 block of Yukon Way.  A man could be heard screaming in the creek area.  The area is accessed from the Ford dealership on Redwood Boulevard.  The reporting party has requested contact.  Officer(s) are assisting another agency with a warrant arrest at present. 

July 13 

12:36 a.m. – A solo vehicle accident was reported in the 500 block of Bolling Circle.  One was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence. 

12:49 a.m. – A reporting party was awakened by a loud boom on Oliva Drive.  The reporting party heard loud screaming and heard a woman saying “I don’t want to die, don’t shoot me.” Officer(s) checked the area and were unable to locate anything suspicious.  Other residents were contacted who thought they heard a verbal argument and a loud metallic bang.  An unknown vehicle had left the area.  There was no merit to shots being fired. 

2:02 p.m. – An assault and battery was reported in the 1300 block of Leafwood Drive.  The reporting party said that an unknown white woman wearing an orange shirt slapped her and took her glasses.  The reporting party said the woman who assaulted her is on Leafwood Drive.  

3:24 p.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 1200 block of Valley Oak Court.  The reporting party had just returned home and found a rear patio gate open and a rear window smashed.  Unknown(s) broke the exterior pane of a dual-pane door window.  No entry appears to have been made. 

4:33 p.m. – A man was reported to be presenting a fraudulent check at the Wells Fargo bank branch in the 1500 block of Grant Avenue.  The man was arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of possessing of a fraudulent check, intent to pass a fraudulent check, and resisting arrest. 6:42 p.m. – A grand theft was reported on Scottsdale Way.  A reporting party said that a bronze plaque that had been attached to a rock near the gazebo had been taken.  The reporting party said the plaque was last seen there about a week ago. 

6:04 p.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 900 block of Diablo Avenue.  The reporting party said that four teenage boys were using a red marker to tag a Dumpster wall with graffiti.  

11:08 p.m. – A verbal disturbance was reported at the Wyndover Apartments in the 800 block of Diablo Avenue.  A man and woman were reportedly in an argument in the parking lot.  The woman was heard screaming, “Leave me alone.”  A woman was contacted who said she was in an argument with her ex-boyfriend.  The boyfriend was gone on police arrival.  A security guard confirmed that there was a verbal argument only. 

11:10 p.m. – Two men were arrested on suspicion of possessing ecstasy in the vicinity of De Long Avenue and Redwood Boulevard.  One of the men was also in possession of hashish.  Both were booked into Marin County Jail. 

11:40 p.m. – Public drunkenness was reported in the 400 block of Ignacio Boulevard.  One person was contacted in the middle of the street and found to be intoxicated.  The person was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of public intoxication. 

July 14 

2:15 a.m. – One person was cited for possession of marijuana in the vicinity of De Long Avenue and Redwood Boulevard.  

10:58 a.m. – A petty theft was reported in the 1200 block of Chase Street.  The reporting party said she is at a friend’s house that is having a garage sale.  She said that she believes a Hispanic man in his 50s stole her iPhone.  She said the man had shoulder length black hair and was with two other Hispanic men both about 18 years of age.  She believes that all of the men were on foot. 

4:30 p.m. – A homeless encampment was reported in the vicinity of the 900 block of C Street.  The reporting party said that he saw a tent about 40 yards behind the playground area and a man about 40 years of age.  The man told officers that he has been living there for about a year.  The tent is well camouflaged and extremely clean.  The man was advised of the city ordinance and the laws regarding trespassing. 

7:41 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported in the 800 block of Diablo Avenue.  The reporting party said that a white teenage boy walked into the 7-Eleven store carrying a chopping knife in his hand.  The boy was with a group of four or five other white teenage boys.  The reporting party further described the boy as about 14 years old, 5-foot-6 tall, light blonde hair, and was last seen wearing a gray beanie and a black shirt. 

8:16 p.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported at the Novato Wellness Center in the 1700 block of Grant Avenue.  

10:47 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported at Novato Community Hospital on Rowland Way.  A teenage boy had been drinking alcohol at an unknown party and received a tattoo on his hand from an unknown person.  The boy’s father had transported him to the hospital. 

July 15 

3:22 a.m. – A resident on Eucalyptus Avenue reported that there was a 17-year-old boy down on the sidewalk who appeared to be very intoxicated.  The reporting party said that the boy was unresponsive but was breathing.  The boy was cited and released for public drunkenness. 

9:07 a.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported in the 1700 block of Grant Avenue.  A white man about 55 years of age was seen driving around in a dark Chevrolet Camaro.  He was wearing dark ski goggles, muttering and driving very slowly.  He had a coffee cup on the roof and another one in his hand.  The man yelled “scrapper” at the reporting party.  

9:23 a.m. – A burglary was reported on Marin Valley Drive.  A toolbox had been taken from the bed of the victim’s truck.  The cab had also been broken into. 

11:47 a.m. – A stolen vehicle was reported in the vicinity of Green Oak Drive and Marin Valley Drive.  A sage green 1996 Honda Accord with a blue driver’s side door was last seen yesterday evening.  

3:09 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the vicinity of Alameda Del Prado and Los Robles.  Unknown(s) tore up the dashboard and removed vent moldings from the victim’s 1999 red Honda Civic. 

4:12 p.m. – Unwanted persons were reported at the outdoor seating area near the Safeway’s gas pumps on Nave Drive.  The reporting party said that there were four people there who all appeared to be homeless.  The four had been panhandling and drinking beer in the area for the last few days.  Officer(s) contacted the four people who did not have alcohol but appeared to have been there awhile.  They were advised of the complaint and were moved along. 

4:53 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported in the 800 block of Diablo Avenue.  A small fire broke out by a path next to a creek.  Smoke and flames had been seen in the area.  The Novato Fire District could not determine the cause but two receipts and a cigarette butt were taken as evidence. 

9:31 p.m. – The Novato Fire District requested that an officer respond for further follow up regarding a fire that occurred earlier today.  Supplemental information was provided. 

10:26 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported in the vicinity of Novato Boulevard and Tamalpais Avenue.   A reporting party heard a gun shot and saw three adults running from the area.  One was wearing a dark colored hood and light colored shorts.  They were last seen on foot on Novato Boulevard running west.  Another adult was seen running west on Novato Boulevard.  Officer(s) conducted an area check and were unable to locate anything suspicious.  

10:36 p.m. – A reporting party in the 200 block of Posada Del Sol heard yelling and screaming coming from a nearby apartment.  A woman was heard screaming.  One person was booked on suspicion of domestic violence and an emergency protection order was issued.
