Coroner's Office Identifies Man Who Died Crossing Street

Fatal collision took place Thursday night during rush hour at South Novato and Diablo in Novato.

A man struck by sport utility vehicle in a busy intersection Thursday night in Novato has died of his injuries, said.

A 33-year-old Novato man was pronounced dead at Marin General Hospital, Novato police and the Marin County coroner's office said. Sgt. Keith Boyd from the coroner's office identified the man as Tysyn Jones, who died at 8:42 p.m.

An autopsy Friday is pending the results of toxicology tests, Boyd
said.

Novato police said Jones was struck by a southbound SUV driven by a 74-year-old woman in the 1500 block of South Novato Boulevard around 6:45
p.m. Jones suffered major injuries and was immediately taken to Marin
General Hospital, police said.    

Jones initially was was not identified by Novato police because more time was needed to notify family, Novato police Sgt. Sasha D’Amico said Thursday.

The vehicle vs. pedestrian incident in the 1500 block of Novato Boulevard was one of two that took place within 12 hours and within half a mile of each other in Novato. On Thursday morning, just south of the Novato Fair shopping center. That person, yet to be identified by police, sustained major injuries.

The causes of both collisions remain under investigation.
