Man Attempting to Get Into Another's Vehicle Later Booked for DUI

Selected calls from the log books of Novato PD, March 10-13

March 10

9:24 a.m. – A burglary was reported in the 1200 block of Redwood Boulevard.  Unknown subject(s) pried a padlock from the victim’s storage shed and removed one of three bicycles and a bike seat from another.  Estimated loss is $700. 

10:40 a.m. – A San Marin High School student was reported to have made suicidal statements via Facebook the previous evening.  Family members, students and the juvenile’s probation officer had all made calls to the reporting party.  Subject admitted to trying to hang himself on March 9 and was still having suicidal thoughts.  The subject was transported to a psychiatric unit.

6:06 p.m. – A white man with medium length gray hair and khaki shorts tried to get into another party’s vehicle in the parking lot of Safeway on Diablo Avenue.  The man attempted to open the rear gate of the vehicle and then got into a white Toyota pickup and drove up another isle of the parking lot.  The subject was arrested and booked for driving under the influence. 

8:02 p.m. – A burglary was reported on Clay Court.  The victim found his vehicle’s window smashed and a backpack stolen.

March 11 

6:36 a.m. – A burglary was reported on the 800 block of Sweetser Avenue.  Unknown subject(s) cut a hole in the victim’s fence and entered the yard area over night.  Loss is unknown at this time. 

7:25 a.m. – A woman reported that her estranged husband had grabbed her arms and clothing during a verbal argument and then pushed her down the stairs as she tried to leave her second story apartment in the 1600 block of Hill Road.  The subject was arrested for spousal abuse.

10:59 a.m. – A boyfriend and girlfriend were involved in a verbal argument at the Shell gas station on South Novato Boulevard.  The argument resulted in the suspect pushing the victim to the ground.  The suspect was arrested and booked for domestic violence, probation violation and possession of prescription medications without a prescription. 

2:34 p.m. – A woman was booked for assault and battery after slamming a child’s hand in a door in the 200 block of Posada del Sol in Ignacio.  The woman had reportedly been drinking and had also smashed a window in a bedroom.  

3:24 p.m. – Four juveniles were reported to have left Safeway on Diablo Avenue with a shopping cart full of items.  The reporting party has video of the incident.  They were seen to have left the parking lot in a blue four-door sedan. 

5:08 p.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported in the 1700 block of Grant Avenue. 

11:19 p.m. – A driver of a vehicle was reported to be continually revving his engine, braking, and backing up.  The vehicle had been in the area for a while.  A subject was cited and released for a parole violation and possession of marijuana. 

March 12 

12:28 a.m. – A subject was arrested and booked for driving under the influence in the 1900 block of Marion Avenue. 

3:04 a.m. – Two suspicious subjects were reported on San Marin Drive between Simmons and Spinosa Way.  One subject was seen in a wooded area near the side of the road with a bat and bending over looking at something on the ground.  Subjects were cited and released for possession of a switchblade and a parole violation. 

2:54 p.m. – A burglary was reported on Hampshire Way.  Unknown subject(s) entered the victim’s garage and went through both vehicles.  Loss so far is an iPod and a camera. 

4:59 p.m. – A customer at Mary’s Pizza Shack on San Marin Drive was reportedly refusing to pay her bill and refusing to leave.  The manager then paid for her meal and asked her to leave immediately, which she did. 

9:20 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported at the former Birkenstock building on Redwood Boulevard.  A ladder and a rope were found hanging down from the roof on the east side of the main building.  The rope was found tied to copper pipe on the roof.  No pipe had been removed at time of arrival on scene. 

10:48 p.m. – An 18 year old girl was walking to the bus stop in the vicinity of Sixth Street and Grant Avenue when 4 or 5 Hispanic males started to followed her and tried to talk to her.  She said she didn’t want to talk and one of the subjects grabbed her arm and then she started running.  Extra patrols were requested to the area. 

March 13 

1:46 a.m. – Unwanted subjects were reported at the Travelodge on Redwood Boulevard.  A party of approximate 20 subjects in a room on the third floor was advised of a noise complaint when they slammed the door in the face of the reporting party.  Subjects were contacted and moved along per the request of the reporting party. 

1:58 a.m. – A homeless encampment was reported in the vicinity of Golden Gate Place and Redwood Boulevard.  A white man was observed going through the brush and into a tent.  Subjects were contacted and asked to move along. 

6:40 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported on the 100 block of San Luis Way.  A man in his 50s was seen in a white Dodge pickup shooting birds in trees.  Gun may have been an airsoft gun.  No reports of gunfire in the area. 

1:58 p.m. – A complaint was made about subjects selling food, jewelry and popcorn in the vicinity of Our Lady of Loretto Church on Novato Boulevard. A subject was observed loading food into his vehicle.  He admitted to selling food on the sidewalk.  He was advised of muni codes and was warned. 

4:02 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported on Kelly Drive when an unknown male subject sent a request to video connect.  The subject exposed himself in a live feed.  The case was taken for documentation with no further information on the suspect. 

10:48 p.m. – A welfare check was requested in the 400 block of Ignacio Boulevard after a resident complained that people were trying to get inside of an apartment.  A subject was arrested for public intoxication.
