Man Arrested for Allegedly Trapping, Attacking Woman Inside Novato Home

A 34-year-old armed man has been arrested for allegedly trapping a woman in a home and attacking her in Novato, police say.

Officers responded to a report of a suicidal person-- later identified as Lance Papka-- with several firearms on Alta Vista Court around 2:40 p.m. Monday, Sgt. Jennifer Dunlap said in a Nixle alert issued late Monday night.

"The victim reported Papka had physically assaulted her, held her against her will, and discharged a firearm inside the residence," Dunlap said.

The unidentified woman was able to eventually flee the residence and met with responding officers, informing them that Papka threatened he would commit suicide, according to Dunlap.

"Officers who were positioned around the residence confronted Papka when he walked outside of the residence," she said.  "Papka complied with the officer’s orders and was taken into custody without incident."

The woman suffered minor injuries in the assault, according to Dunlap.

Police classified the call as a "domestic violence" call but did not release information on how the man and woman are connected.

Papka was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, negligent discharge of a firearm and false imprisonment.
