A Novato man faces two felony assault charges stemming from an altercation Thursday night in which he is accused of strangling a woman and then driving a SUV over her foot, police said.
Police responded to an 8:40 p.m. report of a man and woman arguing in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 1700 block of Marion Avenue, Novato police Sgt. Nick Frey. The woman said she was repeatedly hit in the head by the man and then was strangled to the point of losing consciousness in the parking lot, according to the police report.
The woman regained consciousness as the man drove his dark-colored Chevy Trailblazer toward her and ran over one of her feet, Frey said.
The woman was taken to Novato Community Hospital for treatment to her foot, neck and head, Frey said.
The man, identified as Orlando Jones, 44, of Novato, was found to be in violation of a court order. Officers located him at Brown's Binyerd, a bar on First Street, about 2 1/2 hours later. Jones was arrested and faces felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon and inflicting injury on a cohabitant/spouse.
An emergency protective order was issued and served to Jones, police said.
