We have further proof that cops are good people.

Continuing a tradition of support, the Novato Police Officers Association handed over a $500 check to the Novato South Little League on Wednesday.

The association, which sponsors the league's Diamondbacks team, has contributed $1,500 over the past three years.

Terry Brown, a motorcycle traffic patrol officer who serves as the association's president, said the donations are made to ensure that "every child has the opportunity to play baseball. We are happy and proud to support NSLL and we wish all players good luck in the upcoming baseball season."

Brown said such donations aren't possible without dedicated help from sworn officers and non-sworn police staff plus citizens who make contributions to the association throughout the year. He said it was a great honor to make these contributions.

"Consistently, over the last several decades, NPOA has made donations to those in need and youth groups within our community and the county of Marin," Brown said. "We are ever grateful for the support of our officers and the members of our community who pledge donations to NPOA, for without them donations such as this one would not be possible."
