Investigation Continues into Hamilton Marketplace Shooting

Novato police investigators are following leads in the case, but the main suspect remains at large.

Novato police said Thursday there no new updates on the Jan. 3 gang-related shooting that took place outside a store at Hamilton Marketplace and injured two men.

Lt. John McCarthy said the investigations unit is “actively pursuing the case and following leads.”

Suspects in the shooting fled the Safeway parking lot in Hamilton, where the two men were shot as they sat in a white Toyota Corolla. They were identified as a 23-year-old San Jose resident and a 27-year-old San Rafael resident. One man has since been released from a hospital and the other is receiving treatment for his injuries, McCarthy said Thursday.

Novato police identified Armando Gil, 26, as a second suspect in the shooting and offered a $1,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to his arrest. Gil is considered armed and dangerous, authorities said.

Gil has an active arrest warrant related to a sexual assault that took place in Novato in 2006. His bail on that charge is $250,000. Novato police said no one should attempt to contact or apprehend Gil and that anyone who comes in contact with him should call 911.

Anyone with information about Gil or the shooting is asked to call the investigations unit at 897-4361.
