Ignacio Fire Station 64 Demo is Underway

The public can watch the progress online via a time lapse camera.

Demolition began Tuesday morning on Ignacio Fire Station 64 in preparation for the new $8 million dollar station which is scheduled to be completed in two-years.

The new 7,500-square-foot station will be a state-of-the-art LEED silver standard "essential services facility" that will replace the 1970's structure that fire district officials said is no longer up to code and could collapse in an earthquake.

Today's stations are built to a higher code that requires that the building is capable of remaining operational after an earthquake of 7.0 magnitude.

Kitchell CEM, a Sacramento-based construction management firm, is overseeing the project. The company has done work for the Buck Center for Research on Aging and is also construction/project manager for the City of Novato Adminstrative Offices project.

The public can watch the demolition online from a camera feed that shows the progress nearly every 15 minutes.
