If It Quacks Like a Duck in Novato . . .

The following information from Aug 14–16 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner: 

Aug 16, 12:14 p.m. – Someone reported seeing a person on the railroad tracks in the vicinity of Roblar Drive wearing a long fur trench coat and quacking like a duck for more than two hours.  A woman was contacted at the location who said she had observed Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus in the trees.  Her hair was matted with soap and she was extremely dirty while wearing a fur coat in 80-degree weather.  She was determined to be a danger to herself and transported to Marin General Hospital for psychiatric evaluation. 

Aug 14

1:49 a.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 300 block of Sunset Parkway after a victim came home and found that the window of his vehicle had been broken.  He saw two Hispanic men running away from the area.  The men were last seen running towards South Novato Boulevard and both were wearing dark t-shirts and jeans. 

8:38 a.m. – A Toyota pick-up was burglarized in the 700 block of St. Francis Avenue.

11:04 a.m. – A grand theft was reported in the vicinity of Black John Road and Redwood Boulevard.  A lock on a gate was cut and various tools were stolen. 

12:31 p.m. – Two men were reported petitioning for signatures in front of the Target store on Vintage Way.  The reporting party has asked them to leave but they have refused.  The men were petitioning for a ballot measure to have Amazon and other internet websites subject to sales tax.  The men were cooperative and agreed to stay outside the main flow of customer traffic.  Target employees will notify the PD if they receive complaints. 

1:24 p.m. – A burglary was reported at San Marin High School after a victim discovered that her car had been broken into and a purse was stolen.  The cell phone was being tracked by another cell phone. 

1:56 p.m. – A cyclist was cited for not wearing a helmet in the 700 block of Eucalyptus Avenue. 

3:31 p.m. – A family disturbance was reported on Fairway Drive after a 15 year old boy got upset with his mother for not going to the store to buy him food.  The boy smashed the mother’s computer with a golf club.  His mother did not want him arrested for vandalism.  The refrigerator and pantry were well stocked with food. 

5:42 p.m. – An assault and battery was reported on Muroc Lake Drive after a 19 year old man threw his sister into a wall.  The woman did not want to press charges but was advised to contact the PD if any further assistance was needed. 

8:37 p.m. – A welfare check was requested for a man reported laying on the ground between two portable buildings at Rancho Elementary School.  The reporting party said the man did not move when she yelled after her dog.  The man was contacted and advised of trespassing laws and was also advised against sleeping in the parks in the area. 

9:25 p.m. – A physical fight was reported in the vicinity of Fourth Street and Grant Avenue.  Several people were contacted, identified and released.  Items left on the ground were collected for safekeeping. 

10:25 p.m. – A disturbance was reported in the 1000 block of First Street after a man wearing a bright red sweatshirt was reported walking through a parking lot near Brown’s Binyerd carrying a baseball bat.  The person was arrested and booked into jail on a Contra Costa juvenile warrant. 

Aug 15 

8:08 a.m. – A hit and run misdemeanor was reported in the parking lot of the Courtyard Hotel on Hamilton Parkway. 

8:37 a.m. – A major injury accident was reported in the vicinity of Deer Island Lane and Olive Avenue.  A bicyclist was said to be down with a head injury.  The bicyclist was transported to Marin General Hospital and the bike was booked for safekeeping. 

8:50 a.m. – A gun, possibly a sawed off shotgun, was reported found inside a folding chair bag that was located in some bushes on Lassen Lane.  The gun was placed into evidence. 

9:26 a.m. – A petty theft was reported on Oak Crest Drive after a victim found their car had been gone through over night.  The glove box was open and items were thrown around the car.  Loss is unknown at this time. 

10:15 a.m. – A vehicle violation in the vicinity of Second Street and Grant Avenue resulted in the driver being cited and released for driving with a suspended license, and having no evidence of financial responsibility.  The vehicle was also impounded for 30 days. 

11:18 a.m. – A green 2002 Ford Explorer was reported stolen at the Park n Ride on Atherton Avenue.  

1:28 p.m. – Domestic violence was reported at America’s Best Value Inn on Redwood Boulevard.  The reporting party heard yelling in a room on the first floor and a woman in her 20’s came to the lobby and asked the reporting party to call police.  She also asked for an ambulance stating that she gets seizures. 

4:25 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported behind the library in the 1700 block of Novato Boulevard.  The reporting party said a group of 11 homeless men were sitting there talking to a smaller group of teenagers.  The teenagers were then seen walking down into the creek area.  The reporting party believed that drug dealing was taking place.  Officer(s) contacted the group and no illegal activity was observed.  They were advised of the complaint and they said they would leave the area and make arrangements to meet elsewhere in the future. 

6:22 p.m. – Unwanted subjects were reported in the rear parking lot behind Brown’s Binyerd.  Three men and a woman had been there all day and they had been seen drinking.  A verbal warning was given about consuming alcohol in a public place. 

10:36 p.m. – A physical fight was reported in the 1500 block of South Novato Boulevard.  Multiple persons were contacted and identified.  They said they were at a party on Plaza Linda and when the party was broken up several groups got in verbal arguments.  None of them had injuries or appeared to have been involved in a fight.  They were admonished and released. 

Aug 16 

12:52 a.m. – A man was booked in the vicinity of De Long Avenue and Reichert Avenue for no vehicle registration, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance.  A cell phone was also seized as evidence. 

7:22 a.m. – A black 2004 Toyota Matrix was reported stolen in the 1500 block of Hill Road.  A neighbor told the reporting party that she saw two black men, a white man and a Hispanic male around the vehicle around midnight.  She believed that one man appeared to be a lookout.   The vehicle was repossessed and the owner was advised. 

8:35 a.m. – A burglary was reported at 75 Rowland Way.  Seven laptops were stolen over night.  There were no forced signs of entry.  

9:41 a.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported at Novato Community Hospital on Rowland Way after staff there reported that a disgruntled patient was sending harassing emails.  The former patient was upset over a plastic surgery and was sending veiled comments that left the doctor and staff concerned about the meaning of his comments. 

11:57 a.m. – A burglary was reported on Hector Lane.  The reporting party was showing his residence in escrow and found that someone had broken in and has been living there.  He requested extra patrols in the evening hours and if the person(s) are seen to have them moved along and warned. 

2:07 p.m. – A woman on Monroe Court reported that her bipolar sister with schizophrenia had been off her meds for three days and went after their mother.  She said her sister was not acting right but she is not violent at this time.  The woman was placed on a hold for psychiatric evaluation. 

4:13 p.m. – A man in the 800 block of Diablo Avenue was reported to have been sending strange sexual messages to his primary care physician.  After he had been told he would be switched to a male physician and told to stop sending messages he continued to send more.  He was cooperative with officer(s) questions, advised that what he was doing was a crime, and he was advised to stop contacting his doctor.  He said he would stop. 

11:22 p.m. – A person was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia in the vicinity of Center Road and Eucalyptus Avenue. 

11:23 p.m. – A welfare check was requested for a man seen screaming in the vicinity of Ignacio Boulevard and Laurelwood Drive.  The subject was alone, wearing dark clothing and on foot heading east on Ignacio Boulevard.  The man was unable to be located.
