Homeless Reported Sleeping in Storage Sheds at Children's Center

Selected calls from the log books of Novato PD, Feb. 2-6.

Feb. 2 

7:47 a.m. – A theft of copper wire was reported at the former Birkenstock site on Redwood Boulevard, the second in the past week.

8:14 a.m. – A residential burglary was reported in the 800 block of Arlene Way.  The theft occurred overnight.  The value of the loss is undetermined. Miscellaneous tools and a scooter were taken.

9:22 a.m. – Two juveniles were cited for assault and battery of a female student at Novato High School. 

12:03 p.m. – A vehicle was reported burglarized over night on the 1500 block of Hill Road.  A Nintendo unit and a cell phone charger were taken.

2:40 p.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported in the vicinity of Diablo Avenue and Hill Road.  City properties in two locations in the area were spray painted with purple paint. 

2:42 p.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported in the vicinity of McClay Road and Novato Boulevard.  Residential properties in the area were tagged. 

3:37 p.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported in the vicinity of Seventh Street and Novato Boulevard.  City workers removed yellow tagging on a bridge near the public library prior to officers' arrival.           

Feb. 3 

6:17 a.m. – A vehicle was burglarized on Harding Drive.  The victim lost $400 cash, checks, an iPod and a briefcase. 

8:02 a.m. – A locked vehicle parked in a carport was reported stolen on Cielo Lane.  A 2004 black Saturn was taken between 7 p.m. and 7:45 a.m. 

9:31 a.m. – A student at Novato High School was cited for possession of marijuana. 

11:37 a.m. – A second vehicle was reported burglarized on Harding Drive.  The rear window of a white Toyota Prius was smashed and miscellaneous items were taken. 

1:25 p.m.  – Shoplifting was reported at the Rite Aid store on Diablo Avenue. A black male adult about 25 years old, 6  feet tall, 170 pounds, last seen wearing a black baseball hat, puffy coat and jeans grabbed items and left the store in a red Dodge. License plate number was provided in report. 

3:00 p.m. – A white male student at Sinaloa Middle School was reported to have taken another student's cell phone. The alleged thief reportedly is in possession of other items and has been attempting to sell them.  Subject is suspended and is now at home.  The investigation is ongoing. 

3:19 p.m. – A 12-year-old female student at Hill Middle School was cited for possession of marijuana and released to her mother. 

11:32 p.m. – An Asian male and female were arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail after stealing alcohol from the Safeway at 900 Diablo Avenue.   The theft was caught on video. 

Feb. 4 

8:40 a.m. – Unknown homeless subjects have been reportedly sleeping in storage sheds on the campus of the Novato Children’s Center on Nave Drive.  Items from the center's earthquake kit have been used.  Extra patrols have been requested. 

9:58 a.m. – San Rafael Police Department reports locating a Saturn vehicle stolen from Cielo Lane of Feb. 3. 

3:13 p.m. – A juvenile was cited for shoplifting at Costco after stealing $500 worth of merchandise.  Juvenile was released to his father. 

4:10 p.m. – A reporting party stated that a few Hispanic males were tagging a building on Third Street.  One individual was cited for graffiti vandalism. 

7:49 p.m. – A black female adult about 30 years old is the subject of multiple shoplifting reports from the Target store on Vintage Way.  The associated vehicle is a white Pontiac Grand Am.  The plate number was provided to officers.  The reporting party has videotape of thefts. 

8:52 p.m. – A homeless Hispanic female last seen wearing a red sweatshirt and black pants was asked to leave a place of business at 5800 Nave Drive after attempting to take cash out of a tip jar.  

9:25 p.m. – A woman was heard screaming for the police in the 1000 block of Ignacio Boulevard.  The reporting party suspected domestic violence by an inebriated husband.  A subject was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail for aggravated assault. 

Feb. 5 

5:09 a.m. – A subject was arrested and booked for driving under the influence in the vicinity of De Long Avenue and Highway 101.

10:40 a.m. – A reporting party believes that people are living in two motor homes in a parking lot in the 300 block of Bel Marin Keys Boulevard.  Subjects are Accuchex employees who had a party the previous evening and had permission granted by the building owner. 

9:57 p.m. – A party reported a suspected DUI on Novato Boulevard.  No merit to DUI found.  Subject is a doctor who had just finished a 12-hour surgery.  No odor or objective signs of intoxication detected. 

10:12 p.m. – A man was reported going through a large garbage bin with a flash light in the rear of the medical clinic on Grant Avenue.  Suspect was released to the custody of the Marin County Sheriff's Office. 

10:58 p.m. – A juvenile party was reported on the 1100 block of McClelland Drive.  Two kids were cited for various vehicle code violations and for possession of alcohol and marijuana.  No kids were seen drinking.  Eventually the partygoers left. 

Feb. 6 

9:14 a.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported at Slade Park on Manuel Drive.  The rest rooms, the entrance to the park and picnic tables were vandalized.  

10:24 a.m. – A temporary restraining order violation was reported on the 300 block of Enfrente Road.  Subject was booked into Marin County Jail. 

11:08 a.m. – A burglary was reported in the 1200 block of Royal Oak Terrace. The value of the loss unknown.  Three suitcases full of miscellaneous items had been stolen. 

11:21 a.m. – A grand theft was reported in the 700 block of Sunset Parkway.  The owner of a Toyota 4Runner noticed that the catalytic converter had been taken. 

11:52 a.m. – The second grand theft of a catalytic converter from a Toyota 4Runner was reported on the same block of Sunset Parkway.  

12:09 p.m. – Domestic violence was reported in the 500 block of Alameda Del Prado. A warrant for the arrest of the subject has been issued for domestic violence and violation of a temporary restraining order. The investigation is ongoing.

3:38 p.m. – A woman took cash from a register and fled from a deli on Enfrente Road.  Subject was apprehended and booked for petty theft. 

3:43 p.m. – The third grand theft of a catalytic converter from a Toyota was reported on the 1000 block of Greenwood Drive. 

6:05 p.m. – A burglary was reported on Park Crest Court.  Unknown subject(s) broke into a storage shed and stole miscellaneous tools.  Loss estimated at $2,000. 

9:13 p.m. – A man was arrested and booked at Marin County Jail for public drunkenness in the vicinity of Fourth Street and Vallejo Avenue.
