Homeless Man Accused of Possession of Stolen Property

Man arrested in Novato on suspicion of possession of stolen property less than an hour after another man reported his suitcase stolen from his vehicle.

A homeless man was arrested in Novato on Sunday morning after he was found wearing clothes taken from a stolen suitcase, police said.

The suitcase was reported stolen from a car at 1400 Hamilton Parkway around 10:45 a.m. Sunday, according to Novato police.

Police searched the area and located Geoffrey Gauer, 32, in a marsh area east of the railroad tracks wearing clothes belonging to the victim that had been in the suitcase, according to police.

Gauer was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property and on an outstanding Marin County arrest warrant.

Most of the victim's property was recovered, but some electronic items were still missing, police said.
