Homeless Asked to Clean Up and Move Out

The following information from Feb. 6-7 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Feb. 7

7:42 a.m. – Two groups of homeless subjects were contacted in the vicinity of the bridge near the Novato Fair Shopping Center in the 900 block of Diablo Avenue.  The group in the east side encampment has been making progress cleaning up their camp.  The west side encampment has made minimal progress.  Both groups were told to continue cleaning up their respective areas and to be moved out of the area by Friday.

8:17 a.m. – A welfare check was requested for a woman walking south on the west side of Redwood Boulevard in the vicinity of Grant Avenue.  She was described as white, dressed all in black and she was carrying a black bag with her as she walked along screaming and yelling.  The woman was contacted who said friends she was staying with kicked her out of a hotel room.  She was headed for San Rafael and was given two dollars to catch a bus. 

2:09 p.m. – A hit and run misdemeanor was reported in the 400 block of Entrada Drive.  A Sunny Express delivery truck left towards Jack in the Box after hitting a gold Nissan Pathfinder.  Vehicle plate information was provided. 

4:08 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the 500 block of Loleta Lane.  The burglary occurred sometime between January 23 and today.  Unknown(s) removed a washer and dryer from an empty property.  The point of entry was a rear window. 

5:22 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the 1000 block of Green Oak Drive.  Unknown(s) entered the residence and stole a laptop. The resident found her sliding door open when she returned home. 

6 p.m. – A hit and run misdemeanor was reported in the 1300 block of Grant Avenue.  The reporting party heard a loud noise and went to investigate and saw a green VW Jetta turning around in the area.  The driver of the Jetta had run into a pillar in a breezeway area and left the scene. 

Feb. 7 

10:50 a.m. – A reporting party in the school office at Marin Oaks High School on Diablo Avenue said there was a student there who had blue stuff around her nose.  It appeared that she had crushed an unknown substance and tried to snort it.  The student was contacted and found with a pill bottle and straw.  She admitted to crushing and snorting a pill that a friend had given her.  She stated the pill was an aspirin or similar.  An evaluation was negative and the guardian declined medical treatment. 

10:54 a.m. – A 17-year-old girl at Marin Oaks High School on Diablo Avenue was cited and released on suspicion of being in possession of a pipe and five lighters. 

5:51 p.m. – A child in the vicinity of Deerfield Lane was reported by a parent as being belligerent and disrespectful.  The reporting party has talked to counselors at school and child services but has not got much assistance.  The 13-year-old boy has hurt his 6-year-old sister in the past.  Advice was given to the parents about ongoing behavior issues.  Officer(s) spoke with the boy who was advised to listen to his parents.  The parents were left a card for the Novato Youth Center and were informed about its family services. 

6:54 p.m. – A resident on Briarwood Court reported that a man came to her door and told her that laws for her living will trust had changed and that she had to give him $450.  The woman paid the man but was worried afterward that she may have been scammed and called police.  The company turned out to be valid.  The reporting party was advised to call the company in the morning and confirm that the representative works there and if not to contact the police department. 

9:26 p.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 400 block of Rowland Boulevard.  The reporting party said that unknown(s) had shattered the driver’s side window on his red and tan GMC Suburban while it was parked on the Cambridge Street side of the house.  He had heard a noise and also heard an unknown vehicle leave the area.  The window was shattered by what appeared to be an airsoft gun or a BB gun.
