Upwards of 11 vehicles were involved in wreck first reported at 4:45 a.m.

As many as 11 vehicles were involved in an early morning crash on southbound Highway 101 in the Marinwood area Thursday, sources said.

The incident was reported at 4:45 a.m. halfway between the Marinwood overpass and the Novato city limits near the Nave Drive/Alameda del Prado exit, California Highway Patrol officer Patrick Roth said.

Six people were treated for injuries at the crash site and two were transported to Kaiser hospital in Terra Linda with moderate to minor injuries, according to the Novato Fire Distrct. The extent of their injuries was unknown.

One vehicle was head down the grade toward Marinwood when it spun on the wet roadway and stalled, Roth said. An oncoming vehicle didn't see the spinout until it was too late and struck a center divide or wall, followed by two cars that struck each other as they swerved to avoid the crash. At least two more vehicles swerved and crashed and several others might have stopped but not been involved in the collision, Roth said.

Debris was strewn around the road and a SIG traffic alert was issued at 5:26 a.m. Roth said he went through the area at about 5:20 a.m. and saw traffic flowing and the involved vehicles moved off to the right shoulder. The SIG alert was cancelled at 5:40 a.m.
