Hamilton Residents Shelter in Place Due to Gas Line Break

Novato Fire Protection District reports a gas line break near Bolling Circle and Crissy Place.

A gas leak has caused the evacuation of five homes and blocked off several streets in the Hamilton area of Novato this afternoon, a Novato Fire Protection District battalion chief said.

A backhoe struck the 4-inch gas line around 2:20 p.m. on Bolling Drive, Battalion Chief Bill Tyler said.

Residents of homes in the eighth- to quarter-mile area around the leak have been advised to shelter in place, Tyler said.

PG&E crews are at the scene and the leak in the gas line is expected to be repaired by 7 p.m., Tyler said.

About 12 preschool children in the playground at Hamilton School were told to remain at the school until their parents picke them up, Tyler said.
