Half Acre of Brush Burns Near Ignacio Homes

With 90-degree heat on Sunday afternoon, Novato Fire District didn't take any chances.

A half acre of grass and brush burned in an Ignacio neighborhood Sunday afternoon, never getting close enough to threaten nearby dwellings, the Novato Fire District said.

An emergency call was made at 3:18 p.m. at the top of Posada del Sol, about 100 yards up a fire road and roughly the same distance from some apartments. Five engines and 18 personnel responded and contained the blaze at 3:39 p.m.

Fire marshal Bill Tyler said mutual aid from other agencies was called in but then cancelled.

"It was late in the day but it was probably still 90 degrees, so any working fire is going to get a big response" Tyler said.

The cause of the fire was undetermined but suspicious, Tyler said.
