Grass Fire in Hamilton Just a Few Feet from Blaze 4 Days Earlier

Steep area near train tracks burns near Kelly Drive, Crescent Drive and Main Gate Road.

Several Novato Fire District units were headed to an incident west of the city limits beyond Stafford Lake County Park on Friday afternoon right when another blaze broke out in Hamilton, a fire official said.

But mutual aid from nearby agencies in San Rafael, Marinwood and Tam Fire assured that no homes were threatened by the small grass fire off Kelly Drive in Hamilton, according to Captain Erich Mesenburg.

The first emergency call was made at 4:40 p.m. Short grass and small brush was burning up a steep slope toward Main Gate Road when crews arrived, Mesenburg said. Firefighters accessed it from Crescent Drive across from the train tracks. The fire was under control at 4:49 p.m. and a Tam Fire crew scratched a one-foot-wide line around the perimeter. Other units responding to the area were cancelled.

The burned section's size was 200 feet by 25 feet, and it took place just 30 feet from a blaze doused four days earlier, Mesenburg said.

The fire is under investigation.
