Good Samaritan Taken For His Ride, And Then Some

The following information from June 2–4 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Here are the most recent entries from the Novato Police Department's call log.

The Headliner:

5:53 p.m., June 4 – A stolen vehicle was reported on the 400 block of Ignacio Boulevard.  The owner of the vehicle allowed a homeless man named “Derrick” stay with him over night. “Derrick” borrowed the man’s vehicle and never returned.  The vehicle was a black BMW and the owner’s cell phone and wallet were also inside the vehicle.

June 2 

8:47 a.m. – A man was booked into Marin County jail for driving under the influence in the 7400 block of Redwood Boulevard.

12:13 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the 1300 block of Chase Street.  The reporting party said two black men were seen carrying a safe.  Both got into a silver Lexus and fled the scene.  The front door of the victim’s residence was forced open and a safe, a computer and various other items were taken.  Total loss is yet to be determined. 

1 p.m. – A petty theft was reported in the 100 block of Vintage Way after a person tampered with a gas pump and took gas without paying for it.  The theft of about $7 worth of fuel was recorded on surveillance video. 

1:12 p.m. – Vandalism was reported at San Marin High School when a person kicked the side of the reporting party’s truck leaving a dent and a shoe impression. 

3:57 p.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported in the 5400 block of Nave Drive.  The rear wall and a door of a business were tagged. 

3:57 p.m. – A seventh-grade student at Sinaloa Middle School was reportedly being held in the vice principal's office for putting a harmful substance into his teacher’s coffee cup.  The student was cited for poisoning. 

4:14 p.m. – A driver on Highway 101 reported almost being struck by a black VW Passat.  The woman was reportedly driving recklessly and was weaving about on the freeway.  She was arrested and booked for drinking and driving. 

7:03 p.m. – A man was reported to be screaming and stumbling around the parking lot of the Century Rowland Plaza Movie Theater.  The man was contacted near Taco Bell, admonished and released. 

8:32 p.m. – A woman on George Street faces charges of assault and domestic battery of a spouse. She was arrested and transported to the Marin County Jail and released to the staff. 

9:03 p.m. – A person was arrested and booked for driving under the influence in the 1000 block of Simmons Lane. 

9:13 p.m. – A woman reported that her mother on Fernbridge Place called to say goodbye and that she was going to kill herself.  She said her mother had attempted before with alcohol and pills.  The woman’s mother was transported to Psychiatric Emergency Services. 

June 3 

12:24 a.m. – A driver stopped for a vehicle code violation southbound on Highway 101 at Novato Boulevard was cited and released.  His vehicle was impounded. 

1:04 p.m. – Residents of a unit at the Wyndover Apartments were reportedly selling marijuana.  The reporting party said she saw a boy trying to stuff small baggies with what appeared to be marijuana into his backpack.  The residents were contacted who denied sales from the apartment.  They said the person present earlier was an adult and they didn’t know what he had in his backpack.  

1:28 p.m. – A man was cited for shoplifting at Whole Foods on De Long Avenue.  He consumed a protein drink and left the store without paying for it. 

1:33 p.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported in the vicinity of Leafwood Drive and Sunset Parkway.  The reporting party said the white paint on a fence was possibly gang related.  Unable to locate in reported area. 

1:50 p.m. – A reporting party who had just got off the phone with a patient that sounded as if she had been drinking said she was at the Safeway on Nave Drive.  The woman denied drinking when asked about it but said that she was on her way to a Giants game.  The woman was booked into Marin County Jail for driving under the influence. 

6:32 p.m. – A hit-and-run misdemeanor was reported on Romar Court.  A beige ‘96 Ford hit the victim’s Toyota.  The driver of the vehicle that fled the scene had reportedly been drinking.  California plate information was provided. 

6:38 p.m. – An outstanding warrant arrest was made on the 1600 block of Center Road.  

7:30 p.m. – A warrant arrest was made on Portsmouth Drive and the person was booked into Marin County Jail. 

8:27 p.m. – Shoplifting was reported at Harvest Market on San Marin Drive after a 16-year-old boy with a thin beard, black hoodie and black shorts and black tennis shoes stole a bottle of alcohol.  The reporting party recovered the bottle but the boy ran off on foot headed east on San Marin.  

9:01 p.m. – A hit and run misdemeanor was reported in the 300 block of Ignacio Boulevard after a silver Honda hit a parked blue van and then left the area.  The vehicle was last seen heading down a frontage road. 

June 4 

6:52 a.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported in the 1300 block of Grant Avenue after a woman reported finding someone in her van.  A woman in the van said she had blacked out at a local bar and woke up in a stranger’s vehicle by herself with her pants and underwear on the ground outside the vehicle.  The woman was transported to Kaiser Vallejo as a precaution and to meet with an advocate on the chance she was sexually assaulted. 

10:30 a.m. – A person called to report that her restrained father was inside the residence.  There was a verbal and then the line was disconnected.  Officer(s) took a man into custody for public drunkenness, violating a court order and for a violation of probation.  He was booked into Marin County Jail. 

2:51 p.m. – Two children were reported missing on Oliva Drive.  A 2-year-old child and a 4-year-old child were found down the street looking for their dog. 

4:56 p.m. – A woman reported that she had followed her 16-year-old daughter to the rear of Lucky supermarket on Grant Avenue where she is consuming alcohol with older males.  The daughter was gone on arrival.  Other kids in the area said she had run off prior to arrival. 

6:46 p.m. – A man on Chesapeake Lane reported that his son and another boy had been drinking and that the other boy was so drunk he could barely walk.  The other boy’s parent was not on the scene so he didn’t know what to do with him.  The boy was cited for public drunkenness and released to his father at Novato Community Hospital. 

9:46 p.m. – A resident heard two kids trying to start a city tractor in the vicinity of Center Road and Stasia Drive.  Officer(s) identified and counseled the kids and notified their parents. 

11:19 p.m. – A woman reportedly fell and hit her head on the sidewalk in the vicinity of Grant Avenue and Redwood Boulevard.  The 26-year-old woman was arrested and booked for public drunkenness, battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and a violation of probation.
