Gang Jumps Man on His Way Home

The following information from Nov. 17–20 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner: 

Nov. 20, 11:48 p.m. – Five or six unknown men robbed a man walking home on the Center Road side of the Nave Shopping Center.  The men grabbed the victim by the neck, hit him and pushed him to the ground.  They took his backpack and phone and then fled.  The perpetrators all wore dark clothing.  The victim suffered minor injuries.

4:27 a.m. – A 25-year-old man came into the Novato Community Hospital smelling of marijuana and was verbally abusive toward the staff.  The reporting party said he was possibly driving in an impaired condition.  He was later booked for driving under the influence and transported to Marin County Jail. 

8:47 a.m. – A student was held in the principal’s office at Sinaloa Middle School for brandishing a knife.  The student was booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and for possession of a weapon on a school campus.

10:01 a.m. – A burglary was reported on Boulevard Court.  Unknown(s) gained entry into a victim’s vehicle by tampering with the driver’s door lock.  The theft occurred overnight and the victim is compiling a list of losses. 

11:24 a.m. – A fraud was reported in the 100 block of Westwood Drive.  An elderly victim was convinced that her grandson had been in a collision. A man posing as an attorney representing a family in San Diego told her she could help spare legal action by paying medical expenses. The victim sent $2,226 to an unknown party in Spain.   

12:29 p.m. – A grand theft was reported at the Safeway on Diablo Avenue.  A store employee was in custody with a loss prevention guard. She admitted taking money from her assigned register.  There is an ongoing investigation. 

8:39 p.m. – An assault and battery was reported on Enfrente Road.  One person went to Novato Community Hospital with lacerations on the hand from broken glass. Neither party wanted to press charges. 

Nov. 18 

10:43 a.m. – A petty theft was reported at Trader Joe's on Redwood Boulevard.  A woman’s wallet was taken from her shopping cart as she exited the store.  The theft occurred at 5 p.m. yesterday.  The suspect was a white man about 35 years of age and medium to heavy set in build and was last seen wearing a white shirt. 

1:38 p.m. – An assault and battery was reported at the Wyndover Apartments on Diablo Avenue.  One was arrested and booked for battery, vandalism, injury to a cohabitant and a violation of probation.  He was transported to the Marin County Jail. 

4:15 p.m. – A teen was seen waving a gun in the 1300 block of Leafwood Drive.  He and four other teens were contacted and identified.  The gun turned out to be a pellet gun and was taken for destruction at the request of a parent. 

4:57 p.m. – A burglary was reported at a public storage facility on Landing Court.  A victim’s storage unit was broken into and various power tools were taken. 

Nov. 19 

12:14 a.m. – A burglary was reported at the Safeway store on Diablo Avenue.  One suspect was described as a Hispanic man wearing blue jeans and a black sweatshirt.  He was carrying a green canvas bag.  The other was described as a black woman wearing a red shirt.  Both were last seen walking toward the cigarette shop at Novato Fair shopping center. Two people were booked into Marin County Jail. 

10:44 a.m. – A white man in his 60s came into the lobby of the Marin Humane Society on Bel Marin Keys Boulevard and fell down.  He smelled strongly of alcohol.  He was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of public drunkenness and a probation violation. 

11:34 a.m. – A woman was heard screaming in the creek area behind the Novato Fair shopping center on Diablo Avenue.  A man was arrested on two outstanding warrants and transported to the Marin County Jail. 

3:02 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the 800 block of Vallejo Avenue.  Unknown(s) took a stereo and an amplifier out of a totaled vehicle that was at an auto body shop.  The loss is about $305. 

Nov. 20 

1:55 a.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported in the 7300 block of Redwood Boulevard after a man said he and his friends were attacked by eight  people that had been in the Viking bar.  All had black eyes but no one requested medical attention.  Officer(s) were unable to locate any one else who may have been involved.  The reporting parties obtained a ride and left the area. 

2:11 a.m. – A cab driver called for police assistance in the vicinity of Main Gate Road and Nave Drive after a rider tried to leave without paying. The rider paid the $100 fee and was provided a receipt. 

5:02 p.m. – An arrest was made in the 100 block of Butterfield Drive for a man with multiple warrants.  He was booked at Marin County Jail. 

7:34 p.m. – One person was reported in custody for shoplifting at a Vintage Oaks store.  All of the property has been recovered. The person was cited for petty theft and a violation of probation.  Two other suspects are yet to be identified. 

10:35 p.m. – A person was reported to be in custody for shoplifting at the Lucky supermarket on Grant Avenue.  The person was cited and released.
