Police Log: Fraud, Car Break-ins and Squatters in Empty Home

Highlights from the Novato Police Department's crime blotter

A Novato resident was scammed after responding to a job on Craigslist. The ad asked applicants to mail cash to the Philippines in exchange for checks that would mailed to the house. An investigation is ongoing.

A resident of the 700 block of Cherry Street called police October 28 to say that her neighbor was kicking and yelling at her 16-year-old son in the backyard. Officers responded to conduct a welfare check, but the boy had left, allegedly to stay with other family members.

A resident who left their car in the 8100 block of Redwood Boulevard (near the Buck Center) said it was broken into October 26 and their laptop stolen.

William Wells, a Novato resident, was arrested October 26 on charges of using a controlled substance and being in violation of his parole. Officers responded to his home after a call about a domestic violence incident.

A resident called police October 25 after allegedly seeing a man do a line of coke off a table at La Pinata Restaurant, at 940 Seventh St. Police responded, searched the person, but could not find any drugs in his possession.

A resident living in the 600 block of Fairhaven Way called police saying they believed a squatter had occupied the home after the previous residents moved out. 

Paris Kennedy, 51, was arrested October 21 on charges of selling liquor to a minor.

John Paul Yrisarri, 45, of San Rafael, was arrested October 18 for allegedly driving under the influence, on a suspended license and showing police fake registration papers once pulled over.
