5-Year-Old Runaway Lured Back with Police Badge Sticker

The following information from Jan. 9-10 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner: 

Jan. 10, 12:37 p.m. – A missing child was reported in the vicinity of South Novato Boulevard and Rowland Boulevard. A school principal, a white man, is chasing a 5-year-old Hispanic boy who is running away from the school.  The boy has previously run away from school officials and into the street.  He is uncooperative with police officer(s).  A police badge sticker was used to get the boy to walk back into the school office.  The boy’s mother was called to the school. 

Jan. 9

1:22 a.m. – Arson was reported in the vicinity of Bahia Drive and Topaz Drive. The reporting party smelled smoke outside but was unable to see anything. 

8:33 a.m. – A stolen vehicle was reported on Edwards Court.  Unknown(s) stole a 2003 white Saturn Vue overnight.

8:42 a.m. – Officer(s) assisted the fire department at a fire scene on Binford Road.  A small smoldering fire was put out on the Rush Creek Trail.  Eight small extinguished burn areas were located that ranged in size from one foot to five feet in diameter.   

11:30 a.m. – Officer(s) assisted the fire department at a fire scene in the 600 block of Bugeia Lane.  An open space ranger said the Novato Fire District had documented the incident in the area. 

1:26 p.m. – A grand theft was reported at San Marin High School.  An Apple MacBook was stolen from a classroom between 3 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Friday. 

5:42 p.m. – A temporary restraining order violation was reported in front of the Target store on Vintage Way.  A woman said that the restrained party had shoved her during their child exchange.  An arrest warrant was issued. 

8:43 p.m. – A fraud was reported at the Whole Foods market on De Long Avenue.  A man reportedly gave the store a fake $100 bill.  The reporting party described the man as either a Hispanic or black, 30 to 35 years old, wearing a black hat, black jacket, light blue T-shirt and blue jeans.  The bill was recovered and booked into evidence. 

9:04 p.m. – An intoxicated woman was asked multiple times to leave Brown’s Binyerd, but she is refusing.  She was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of public drunkenness. 

Jan. 10 

8:24 a.m. – Unwanted people were reported in the 100 block of Roblar Drive.  A man and a woman were found sleeping in a pool house.  They were contacted and moved along.  The man was listed as a missing adult out of Contra Costa County and advised to contact his son. 

8:29 a.m. – An unwanted person was reported in the 1500 block of Center Road.  A woman’s ex-husband was found sleeping in her son’s closet.  The man was moved along per the reporting party’s request.  Advice was given to the reporting party about obtaining a restraining order and a custody order. 

4:55 p.m. – A burglary was reported on Fawn Court.  Unknown(s) broke into the victim’s locked vehicle and took miscellaneous items.  The reporting party is making a list. 

5:02 p.m. – An identity theft was reported in the 2200 block of Center Road.  The reporting party said unknown(s) opened a Comcast account in Oakland using her name and information. 

6:13 p.m. – Vandalism was reported at an office building in the 1300 block of Grant Avenue.  The reporting party said some kids on bikes just kicked and dented a metal storage shed at the business.  The reporting party was contacted who said that there was no witness to the vandalism, only that the kids were sited leaving the scene. 

7:22 p.m. – Assistance was provided to a citizen who was about to sign a lease on a unit in a strip mall in the 5400 block of Nave Drive.  She had seen a squatter’s items in a room on the property and wanted the property checked.  The interior was searched and nobody was located inside.  The reporting party was given crime prevention advice if she were to sign a lease.
