False Alarm on Live Grenade Found in House

The following information from Sept. 8-9 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner:

5:37 p.m., Sept. 8 — A person cleaning out the home of a deceased friend on Clausing Court found a grenade with the pin still in it. An officer found that it was not real and the reporting party requested to keep it as memorabilia.

3:39 a.m. — A man was found prostrate in a bike lane near Redwood and Rowland boulevards. He told the reporting party that he was on the ground "because it feels good." He was arrested on suspicion of public drunkenness.

6:51 a.m. — A person who was staying with a friend on Cherry Street said a woman came forced her way into the house and stole a backpack that contained pain medication.

8:40 a.m. — Items from a purse, including a wallet, were found scattered on Taft Court. The items were gathered and returned to their owner, but $100 was missing from the purse.

8:42 a.m. — A hit-and-run was reported at Redwood and Rowland boulevards. The driver of a black Toyota Tacoma ran a red light and struck another vehicle, then fled. The driver of the struck vehicle followed the suspect and the other driver was eventually cited.

10:35 a.m. — Someone called from San Andreas and San Marin drives saying an elderly woman has fallen a couple of times on a sidewalk and her husband is trying to guide the wife away from the reporting party. An officer found that the woman is a cancer patient who was dizzy from chemotherapy. They refused paramedic assistance and were urged to call a doctor.

10:42 a.m. — A possible road rage incident was reported on Enfrente Road between the driver of a Ford pickup and the driver of a Toyota Matrix.

1:13 p.m. — Someone reported a mid-1980s Mustang driving on the Vineyard Road sidewalk and forcing people off the road. Officer was unable to locate the driver.

3:39 p.m. — A false identity report was made by a resident of Country Lane.

5:40 p.m. — Someone reported two suspicious people hiding the back seat of a parked car near Alameda del Prado and Clay Court. One was dangling his feet out the window. The subjects were taking a nap before going to work at a nearby restaurant.

9:11 p.m. — A loud boom was reported in the area of Maria Loreto Court. The area was searched but nothing was found.

Sept. 9

6:14 a.m. — A combative patient was reported at a care facility in the 1500 block of Hill Road. The person was throwing things at a doorway and trying to leave the facility.

8:46 a.m. — About $10,000 worth of jewelry was reported stolen from a home on  Merritt Drive while the reporting party was out of town. The victim's adult son had a large party over the weekend.

1:40 p.m. — Someone in the 1100 block of Grant Avenue saw two elderly women on electric scooter/walkers yelling at each other and chasing each other. The subjects were gone on officer arrival.

1:48 p.m. — A noninjury crash was reported in the 1900 block of Novato Boulevard. One vehicle rear-ended another and the involved subjects are arguing.

2:47 p.m. — A woman in a tent off Clausing Avenue was heard screaming, "My boy's dead and it's all your fault." Officers contacted the woman, who said she was in a verbal dispute with a man she did not want to identify.

6:33 p.m. — A pedestrian was injured when struck by a vehicle in the 900 block of Diablo Avenue. The driver remained on scene and the injured person was conscious and breathing.
