DUI Probation Sweep Yield 2 Fresh Arrests

County law enforcement combined with Novato PD to make unannounced checks on 32 people who had been convicted of drunken driving.

Novato police and Marin County officials made 32 uannounced visits to DUI probationers around the county on Dec. 13, and two were taken into custody for probation violations, the county announced Monday.

The Marin County Probation Department said the sweep was set up because it recognizes there is an increase in drunk driving arrests during the holiday season.

The probation department, in cooperation with the Marin County District Attorney’s investigations unit and Novato police, combined forces on a countywide compliance operation of offenders who have been convicted of multiple convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol. The probationers included AB 109 offenders and others who are currently on county parole.

Of the taken into custody, one was for violating the conditions of county parole and another for being under the influence of alcohol. Several matters such as a false address and possible drug and alcohol use were still being investigated, the county said.

The probation department said it recognizes the threat offenders pose to the community, and will "continue to monitor these offenders as well as assist them in their sobriety."
