DUI Checkpoints Planned Around Marin
Marin law enforcement agencies are setting up DUI checkpoints. There isn't one in Novato for this Avoid the 13 campaign, but you might want to know where they'll be.
Anyone celebrating the end of summer with alcohol should make sure they'll have a designated driver when traveling home.
From Aug. 17 to Sept. 3, Marin law enforcement are conducting DUI and driver’s license checkpoints and local roving DUI patrols as part of a statewide effort to crack down on impaired driving on the Labor Day weekend.
A series of roving patrols specifically on the look out for drunk and impaired drivers will operate throughout the county on various evenings from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

“Research has shown that high-visibility enforcement like the 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' campaign reduces alcohol-impaired driving fatalities by as much as 20 percent," Sgt. Christopher Coale said in a release. "By joining this statewide wide effort, we will make Marin’s roadways safer for everyone throughout the Labor Day period.”
The checkpoints are Aug. 24 in Mill Valley and Aug. 31 in San Anselmo; the times and locations were still to be determined.

In 2010 alone, 791 people died in California in crashes in which a driver or motorcycle rider was at or above the legal limit. The age group with the highest percentage of alcohol-impaired-driving fatalities in motor vehicle traffic crashes was the 21-to-24 age group.
