Driver Injured in Single-Car Crash on Hwy. 101 Near Atherton Ave.

Car containing two children and two adults drifted onto the shoulder of the highway, then driver over-compensated and careened over to hit the median, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A driver was injured Friday morning when her car struck both the guardrail on the shoulder of Hwy. 101 and the center median on Hwy. 101 near the Atherton Ave. exit, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred at around 11:40 a.m. Friday, according to CHP Officer Andrew Barclay, when the unidentified driver veered onto the shoulder on northbound Hwy. 101 near the Atherton Ave exit, side-swiping the guardrail before she over-compensated and the car careened across the highway and into the median.

The woman, whose identity was not available, was taken to Novato Community Hospital with neck and back pain. The two children or adult passenger in the car were not injured, Barclay said.

The incident backed up traffic in the area for approximately one hour, according to the CHP.
