Driver Crashes into Police Station Steps, Faces DUI Charge

Another driver had just reported the man as a reckless driver Monday afternoon before he bumped into the PD's front steps.

Novato, CA -- Several police officers standing outside the Monday afternoon were stunned to see a driver lose control of his vehicle right in front of them, only to get arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Rickey Lynn Brown, 50, of Novato was reported by another person as driving recklessly just before he crashed into the steps in front of the police department on Machin Avenue at about 1:25 p.m., Lt. John McCarthy said. Several officers were in front of the building when Brown made his crash landing near the flagpole.

"Let's say he was found pretty easily," McCarthy said. " ... You don't typically see that — where they pull up and stop and they're (drunk). We'd prefer that, if they came to us rather than having us go out after them."
