Crash on Nave Drive Injures Driver, Damages Fence

Driver headed northbound on Highway 101 missed hitting the sound wall on Nave Drive when he reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel.

Friday morning, a driver reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel of his car on northbound Highway 101 in Novato, crashed through the fencing and finally came to a rest on Nave Drive resulting in injuries to the driver, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At 6 a.m., 25-year-old Brandon Patterson, of Rohnert Park, was traveling northbound on Highway 101 in a 2007 Nissan X-Terra. He had his cruise control set at approximately 65 miles per hour and was just south of Ignacio Boulevard when he fell asleep behind the wheel and allowed his vehicle to drift to the right and exit the freeway, according to CHP Officer Eric Hohmeister.

The Nissan exited Highway 101 just north of the Nave sound wall and the front end of the car hit a road sign, three trees, and the chain link fence before the Nissan came to rest in the southbound lane of Nave drive, just south of Hamilton Parkway, according to a CHP report.
