"Dec 18, 1:36 p.m. – Two ninth-grade students at Novato High School got into an altercation in which a girl swung at boy, grazing him on the chin. Why wasn't she arrested for battery? ...because she is a girl? ...because it could not have hurt the boy much, since she is a girl? Equality under the law!

"Dec. 19, 1:00 p.m. – An eighth-grade student allegedly set fire to a paper towel in the boys’ bathroom at the Hill Educational Center at 720 Diablo Ave. No damage occurred as result of the fire." Why wasn't he arrested, arson on an occupied dwelling.

It is the District Attorney's authority to press or not press charges. As in domestic violence cases, even if the victim does not wish to "press charges", the District Attorney has the authority and responsibility to "press" (file) charges. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
