Charity Donations Robbed From Paradise Foods

The following information from Oct. 3-5 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner: 

Oct. 5, 3:49 a.m. – A burglary was reported at Paradise Foods on Ignacio Boulevard.  Unknown(s) used a rock to break a glass door to gain entry to the store.  Once inside they broke a container that was used for collecting cash donations for a charity cause.  Damage was estimated at $1,000 and the loss was about $100 in cash.  The review of surveillance video is pending. 

Oct. 3

8:18 a.m. – An unwanted person was reported at the 7-Eleven store on Diablo Avenue.  A white woman in her 60s wearing a black T-shirt and jeans was soliciting customers to buy her alcohol.  The manager asked her to leave but she refuses.  The woman was contacted and moved along. 

8:45 a.m. – A noise disturbance was reported at Pioneer Park on Simmons Lane.  A man was playing bongo drums in the gazebo at the park.  A resident contacted the man but he refused to lower the level of his drumming.  The reporting party will contact police regarding a complaint if it continues.

12:06 p.m. – An assault and battery was reported at San Marin High School.  A student from a county community school came to the campus and challenged a student to a fight and then hit her in the eye.  The suspended student has since left the campus and the victim student is back in class.  The investigation is ongoing. 

12:46 p.m. – A welfare check was requested for a Novato High School student that has a history of depression.  It was unclear why police were  requested.  The student was in a counselor’s office and then transported to Marin General Hospital for a 72-hour psychiatric evaluation. 

2:54 p.m. – A hit-and-run misdemeanor was reported in the parking lot of the Safeway on Diablo Avenue.  A Hispanic woman driving a red Toyota RAV4 was seen backing into a vehicle.  She then got out of the vehicle, got on her phone, got back into her vehicle and fled the area.  The reporting party followed her onto Reichert Avenue and was last seen headed toward  Grant Avenue.  

3:38 p.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 700 block of Sun Lane.  The reporting party says unknown(s) tore up seven campaign signs at various Novato locations. Three other signs were also taken without permission.     

6:05 p.m. – A petty theft was reported at Paradise Foods after a white woman tried to steal tortillas.  When staff confronted the woman they were able to recover the merchandise.  She was last seen wearing a red shirt under a blue vest.  She left the area on foot. 

9:07 p.m. – Suspicious circumstance were reported in the 1600 block of Hotchkin Drive after a resident arrived home and saw that a man wearing a black hoodie was lifting up a car cover on his vehicle that was parked in front of his house.  The man left when he saw the reporting party.  The man was last seen in a 1995 gray BMW heading toward Highway 101.  Extra patrols were requested. 

Oct. 4 

12:54 p.m. – A suspicious subject was reported harassing customers between the Boulange restaurant and the Safeway on Nave Drive.  He was described as tall and scruffy and was last seen wearing black clothing.  He could not be located on arrival. 

1:21 p.m. – A woman in the 500 block of Sunset Parkway reported an identity theft.  She said that her wages were being garnished for attending a Heald business school in 1996. 

1:32 p.m. – A woman out riding her bike in the vicinity of McClay Road and Novato Boulevard reported seeing hypodermic needles on the ground near a bridge.  The needles were picked up and booked into evidence. 

2:12 p.m. – A suspicious subject was reported going through cars in the Safeway parking lot.  He was described as a Hispanic man in his 40s.  He was gone on arrival and could not be located. 

2:31 p.m. – Reckless driving was reported in the vicinity of Novato Boulevard and San Marin Drive.  The reporting party observed a teen driving a green Ford Explorer doing donuts in the middle of Novato Boulevard while other teens watched.  School had just gotten out and there was a lot of vehicle and pedestrian traffic.  Gone on arrival. 

3 p.m. – A woman requested advice about an incident involving her son at Sinaloa Middle School.  She said her son called her to tell her that he was hit in the back of the head and that he was in the office and the school staff was trying to blame him.  The incident was being handled within the school and the reporting party was satisfied with response.  The reporting party was advised that police would be contacted if the investigation warranted it. 

5:06 p.m. – A petty theft that had occurred on Sunday was reported at the CVS store on Grant Avenue.  A woman’s cell phone was stolen while shopping there and the theft was captured on surveillance video.  

9:05 p.m. – Vandalism was reported at an office complex in the 300 bock of Ignacio Boulevard. 

11:26 p.m. – Suspicious persons were reported on Hutchins Way.  A reporting party said that four teen boys in hooded sweatshirts are trying to open car doors in the area.  They were seen removing items from open cars.    

Oct. 5 

3:09 p.m. – A tenant at the Wyndover Apartments was reported to have damaged a fence yesterday and to have dug up a sidewalk earlier today.   A complaint was requested to the Marin County District Attorney’s office for vandalism. 

5:35 p.m. – Unknown(s) reportedly took more campaign signs in the vicinity of Sunset Parkway and Ignacio Boulevard.  The loss is approximately $44.40. 

7:14 p.m. – Unwanted persons were reported in the 900 block of Diablo Avenue.  Homeless people in the dumpster area near the Dollar Tree are loitering and frightening customers.  

10:18 p.m. – A driver in the 400 block of Entrada Drive was booked for possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, a controlled substance, a syringe, paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license.  The driver’s vehicle was also impounded.
