Car Strikes Pole on Novato Boulevard, Rolls Over

Minor injuries reported on crash a few miles west of Novato city limits.

Paramedics took a man to a local hospital Wednesday morning after a solo car crash on a rural stretch of road a few miles west of the Novato city limits, sources said.

The 2012 Ford Fiesta was heading south on a Novato Boulevard straightaway west of Stafford Lake County Park and east of the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road when it struck a pole and rolled onto its side, said engineer Bryan Lewis of Marin County Fire Department's Hicks Valley Station.

Megan Cooper, the first person who came upon the wreck, said the driver — 46-year-old Jason Meyerson of Point Reyes Station — walked away from the crash mostly unhurt — with just a cut on his hand.

"He told me it was because he'd been wearing his seatbelt and because his airbags deployed," she said. "Talk about a lucky break!"

Meyerson told first-responders that he was reaching for an object when the car went off the right side of the road and down a slight hillside. As the Fiesta went down the hillside, it turned onto its side and then blasted through a fence that borders the road, investigators said. The Fiesta continued sliding until it collided with a wooden power pole, causing the live power lines and phone lines to fall into the roadway.

Novato Fire District paramedics arrived and placed the man on a straight board as a precaution, a firefighter said. He was transported to Kaiser in Terra Linda.

Traffic on Novato Boulevard was limited to one lane from 7:20-9:50 a.m. while emergency crews cleared the scene, the CHP said. PG&E and Verizon  cleared the wires from the road and PG&E started replacing the wires and pole.
