Car Overturns, Catches Fires in Pile-Up on 101

No serious injuries reported.

A fiery three-car collision on northbound U.S. Highway 101 Friday afternoon near Petaluma caused one of the vehicles to overturn, injuring one of four people in that vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

All three vehicles -- a 2011 Toyota Camry, a 2001 Jeep Cherokee and a 2011 Hyundai Sonata -- were traveling in the fast lane just north of San Antonio Road at about 4:20 p.m.

According to the CHP, the driver of the Camry failed to brake in time for slowing traffic and collided with the rear of the Cherokee driven by a 19-year-old woman from Santa Rosa.

The Cherokee continued moving forward, slamming into the Sonata that was carrying three passengers, the CHP said.

The Cherokee, in which three other passengers were traveling, overturned and came to a rest on its roof, straddling the fast lane and the center lane, the CHP said.

The Camry came to rest on the right shoulder, where it caught fire, and the Sonata came to rest in the center divide, according to the CHP. Only one of the passengers in the Cherokee sustained minor injuries that were treated at the scene, the CHP said.

No other injuries were reported, and no arrests were made. All lanes of traffic were clear by about 5:20 p.m. Friday, according to the CHP.
