Bronze Plaques New Target for Thieves?

The following information from Aug 24–27 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner: 

Aug 25, 4:34 p.m. – A grand theft was reported in the 200 block of Club Drive.  A bronze 1-foot-by-2-foot plaque with “Olive Ridge” imprinted on it was taken from the entrance to a community area. The loss is $1,524. 

Aug 26, 11:07 a.m. – A grand theft was reported at the Marin Country Club on Country Club Drive.  Bronze plates were removed from the front entrance pillars to the club.  The plates were valued at $2,500 each.

Aug 24 

5:04 a.m. – Extra patrols were requested for all school campuses because Wednesday was the first day of school.  Patrols are to be provided for traffic enforcement, especially at the high schools.

9:32 a.m. – A grand theft was reported in the 1300 block of Yukon Way.  Unknown(s) stole 12 to 14 old solar panels that had been in storage overnight.   

1:07 p.m. – Someone on Muroc Lake Drive reported that his  23-year-old daughter is “selling” a younger 19-year-old brother, possibly in the Canal area of San Rafael.  The reporting party is leaving for work and wife will need Creole translator. 

1:33 p.m. – A hit-and-run misdemeanor was reported in the vicinity of Fairway Drive and Ignacio Boulevard.  The driver of a white van with Hoffman Electric painted on the side just went through six traffic cones while talking on a cell phone. 

3:49 p.m. – Unwanted persons were reported at the Shell station on South Novato Boulevard.  There were four kids loitering on the property who were refusing to leave.  The kids left the area and no other violations were observed. 

4:21 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported at the Marin Humane Society on Bel Marin Keys Boulevard after a man, approximately 20 years of age started yelling and screaming behind the shelter.  Staff believes the man was upset about his pit bull being impounded as he had threatened to kill a staff member.  The man was gone on arrival and could not be located in the area.  He possibly boarded a northbound bus on Highway 101. 

8:50 p.m. – A verbal disturbance between and man and woman was reported in the 800 block of Lamont Avenue.  A woman was booked into Marin County Jail for corporal injury on a spouse. 

10:16 p.m. – A resident reported that two people were smoking marijuana in a black Ford Mustang on Captain Nurse Circle.  One was contacted who had a valid medical marijuana card who was smoking on private property. 

Aug 25

12:26 a.m. – A fight between six or seven people was reported at a business in the 800 block of Grant Avenue. There was mutual combat between parties who refused any further law enforcement intervention. 

12:24 p.m. – A warrant arrest was made in the vicinity of Cambridge Street and Rowland Boulevard. 

2:18 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported in the 600 block of Arthur Street after a resident had walked by a neighbor’s home and heard loud music coming from the garage.  The reporting party knows that the elderly resident was in Sacramento with family after suffering a fall.  A woman contacted in the rear yard said that she had permission to be on the property.  The man who had given her access had gone off to the store and locked the garage.  The man has occupied the garage for years with permission. 

2:19 p.m. – A petty theft was reported at Lucky’s supermarket on Grant Avenue after the driver of a yellow older model pickup truck took cardboard pallets from behind the store.  

3:51 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported on Los Padres Circle when an older silver gray Mercedes occupied by three men were observed to have handguns.  The driver was described as a Hispanic man.  The rear seat passenger had a black handgun and was described as a black man 17 to 19 years old wearing a black knit cap.  The front seat passenger had a gun in his hand and was described as a black man. The area was checked for the vehicle and subjects but they were gone on arrival and could not be located. 

5:15 p.m. – A fight involving five white males was reported in the vicinity of the Novato Public Library on Novato Boulevard.  The situation abated prior to officer(s) arrival.  No one was found in the area. 

5:28 p.m. – A Novato library employee reported a man in the bathroom that had been drinking.  The man was booked for public drunkenness and a probation violation. 

6:55 p.m. – A property manager requested officer assistance for an apartment on Muroc Lake Drive.  The manager reported seeing drug paraphernalia and animal feces in the apartment.  He also said that there was a baby in the apartment and that the parents appeared to be high.  Officers assisted Children and Family Services with a welfare check on a 3-week-old baby.  

7:25 p.m. – A person was cited and released for an out of county warrant on Tilden Drive. 

Aug 26 

11:26 a.m. – A man attempting to start a fight with another man was reported in the Nave Shopping Center on South Novato Boulevard.  The man was drinking a beer, had slurred speech and was last seen walking toward the Grocery Outlet.  He was arrested for public drunkenness. 

11:55 a.m. – A temporary restraining order violation was reported in the 1500 block of Hill Road.  A woman said that her ex-boyfriend has been calling and texting her.  A complaint request was sent to the D.A.’s office for a violation of a protective order. 

12:56 p.m. – A woman in the 1700 block of Novato Boulevard reported that she has been receiving death threats via Facebook.  She also has been receiving messages describing what her children are wearing. She has been receiving messages for three days.  

2:26 p.m. – Extra patrols were requested at San Marin High School at dismissal time due to students driving recklessly. 

7:19 p.m. – A person was arrested in the 200 block of Alameda Del Prado for possession of a controlled substance. 

8:13 p.m. – A burglary was reported at Costco on Vintage Way.  A white woman in her 30s wearing a black tank top and blue jeans walked out a fire door with $700 worth of merchandise.  The woman was intercepted in the parking lot and the loss was recovered.  She left the scene in a vehicle.  The vehicle plate information was obtained and the evidence was recovered. 

10:44 p.m. – Vandalism was reported in the Vintage Oaks shopping center parking lot after a group of girls went into a store and threatened and employee.  The girls said they wanted to fight her and then left the store.  When the employee left the store she found a tire on her vehicle had been slashed. 

Aug 27 

12:26 a.m. – Two missing kids out of Oregon driving a burgundy Subaru Outback with Oregon plates were arrested in a stolen vehicle near the Days Inn on Redwood Boulevard.  They were booked into the juvenile hall and the vehicle was towed away. 

12:48 a.m. – A man was arrested for domestic violence in the 100 block of San Marin Drive. 

10:42 a.m. – A vehicle was impounded after a driver was cited for numerous vehicle code violations in the 800 block of Diablo Avenue.  The person was cited for driving with a suspended drivers license, giving false information to a police officer, resisting arrest, having an open container in the vehicle, and having no child passenger restraints. 

2:19 p.m. – A woman in the 200 block of San Ramon Way reported a harassment incident over a neighbor that shines a flashlight at her when she feeds animals in the open space.  She said he also mumbles things at her and scares her. 

4:06 p.m. – A man was reported laying on the ground in the vicinity of Main Gate Road and Nave Drive.  He was found intoxicated and booked for public drunkenness and a probation violation. 

6:18 p.m. – A suspicious subject was reported in the vicinity of Oliva Drive.  Security said that six kids who are not residents at the property attempted to enter the pool area.  A man in his early 20s wearing no shirt and green pants threatened to assault the security guard.  The group was last seen headed toward the Miwok Shell station. 

6:42 p.m. – A hit-and-run misdemeanor was reported in the 600 block of Cherry Street.  The reporting party said a heavy set Hispanic boy about 16 years of age driving a pink '90s Ford Taurus backed into the driver’s side of his Nissan and left the scene.  Plate information was provided.
