Selected calls from the log books of Novato PD, May 9-11

May 9 

10:25 a.m. – Vandalism was reported to a vehicle at the Days Inn on Redwood Boulevard.  Unknown(s) keyed the reporting party’s car three nights in a row.  Marks were found on the passenger side of the vehicle as well as the rear driver’s side window. The reporting party and her husband do not want to make a report as they felt the incident log was enough documentation.  

10:47 a.m. – An unwanted man was reported sleeping in the parking lot median in the 1500 block of South Novato Boulevard.  The man who was wearing no shirt was contacted and he said he was reading and sunbathing.

11:31 a.m. – A suspicious man was reported in front of Pharmaca on Redwood Boulevard.  He appeared homeless and was playing with an iPad.  The reporting party thought the iPod may be stolen.  The lost iPad was recovered and returned to its owner. 11:56 a.m. – A person was reported to be a danger to self or others on Park Crest Court.  The reporting party said a person had his belt around his neck and was standing on chair.  The man had attempted to hang himself in his room.  Forced entry was made into the residence and the man was placed on a psychiatric hold at Kaiser Terra Linda.

12:36 p.m. – A suspicious male was reported occupying a former black and white police car in the 700 block of Tamalpais Avenue.  He was parked next to a fire hydrant and kept turning on a siren.  The reporting party was concerned and suspicious about a juvenile who rode a bike up to the vehicle.  The driver was contacted and a citation was issued. 

12:59 p.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 1700 block of Grant Avenue.  Unknown(s) smashed the window of a parked white Toyota truck.  The glove box was open but the victim does not believe anything was taken.  

3:28 p.m. – A road rage incident was reported in the 1600 block of Grant Avenue.  The reporting party and another man had contact and after the reporting party went back to work he heard tires losing air.  Two people witnessed the man slash the victim’s right rear tire.  The victim refused to sign a complaint against the man and allowed him to pay for the damage.

4:59 p.m. – A 41-year-old woman was reported to be a danger to herself or others in the 600 block of Louise Avenue.  The woman was placed on a psychiatric hold after she attempted to overdose on medications. 

5:06 p.m. – A man walking a dog in the vicinity of Esquire Court and Ignacio Boulevard refused to put his animal on a leash.  The reporting party requested that an officer respond.  The man was cited for a municipal code violation. 

6:31 p.m. – A petty theft was reported in the vicinity of Novato Boulevard and San Miguel Way.  Two white men approximately 20 years of age grabbed a long board from the victim and then ran over it with their vehicle.  They were driving a red Mustang.  The victim said he did not know the men. 

9:06 p.m. – A person was reported to be a danger to self or others at Novato Community Hospital.  A patient had returned to the emergency room wanting to sleep there.  The person refused to leave and was transported to the psychiatric unit at Marin General Hospital. 

May 10 

1:13 a.m. – A boy with a backpack was seen enterting an unoccupied home with foreclosure notices posted on it in the 1000 block of Fifth Street. The boy was found to be a runaway and was returned home. 

2:12 a.m. – A robbery was reported at the Redwood Bagel Company on South Novato Boulevard.  A Hispanic man approximately 25 years of age wearing a gray sweater with black material covering his face entered the business with a gun and forced the victim to empty the cash register.  Loss was $130. 

9:01 a.m. – An assault and battery was reported in the vicinity of Grant Avenue and Novato Boulevard.  An unknown Hispanic woman in her 20s pushed the victim to the ground and hit her.  The woman then ran northbound on Novato Boulevard.  The victim said the assault was unprovoked.  A piece of paper was found with a copy of the suspect’s Mexican I.D. on it. 

11:30 a.m. – Domestic violence was reported in the 1200 block of Leafwood Heights.  On Mother’s Day, the woman’s boyfriend and the father of two children pushed the reporting party to the ground and pinned her there.  There is a history of unreported domestic violence on the woman who is living at a shelter.  The boyfriend was arrested and booked for domestic violence.

2:37 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the 200 block of Alameda del Prado.  Unknown(s) entered the victim’s locked toolbox in a pickup truck parked at the Park ‘n Ride and took two shot guns and an ammo box.  The reporting party is the registered owner of the guns. 

3:55 p.m. – A man reported that his son was choked by another student at San Jose Middle School.  The man said it was an ongoing problem and that he would like to press charges.  The man requested that officers make contact.

7:57 p.m. – A petty theft was reported at the CVS pharmacy on Grant Street.  A woman left her cell phone on the counter and left the store.  When she returned the cell phone was gone.  The store manager was able to look at surveillance video and get suspect information.  The pharmacy provided a name and information to officers.  A complaint was requested for petty theft and a probation violation. 

8:40 p.m. – Notification was given to a party on Leafwood Heights that a man was bailing out of jail in the next 20 to 30 minutes who had earlier been arrested for domestic violence.  

8:52 p.m. – A restraining order violation was reported on Leafwood Heights.  A man was arrested for returning to a residence and violating an emergency protection order. 

11:02 p.m. – A verbal disturbance was reported at the Wyndover Apartments on Diablo Avenue. Officers contacted the reporting party who was extremely intoxicated and appeared to have a mental issue.  She said her downstairs neighbor had her wallet.  The neighbor was contacted who just woke up and said he did not have the woman’s wallet.  The reporting party did not provide any further information and made no sense. 

May 11 

2:54 a.m. – A diamond ring was reported stolen at the Wyndover Apartments on Diablo Avenue. The reporting party said she last saw the ring at 11:30 p.m. and has no idea who could have taken it.  Officer(s) located the ring in a drain.  The woman was advised to call a plumber to get it out. 

8:29 a.m. – Two white boys were reported smoking marijuana in a white two-door Honda at the top of a hill in the vicinity of Arlington Circle and Woodland Court.  The vehicle had an “N” Novato High School sticker, modified exhaust and a partial plate of “4EAP.”  The reporting party was concerned about the boys driving under the influence.  The vehicle left going down the hill possibly in route to school.  The vehicle was unable to be located. 

10:32 a.m. – A man was reported to be a danger to himself an others on Hathaway Drive.  The man called and said he is being kicked out of his house and he doesn’t see any other way out than to kill himself.  He was transported to a psychiatric facility for a 72-hour hold. 

11:23 a.m. – Three to four students were reportedly found with alcohol at Hill Middle School.  A minor was cited for possession of alcohol at school. 

1:10 p.m. – A girl at Novato High School was reported to be distributing rum and orange juice to other students from her water bottle.  The student was cited for the possession of alcohol while on school grounds.

3:09 p.m. – A dead body was reported in the 1000 block of Eighth Street.  A 63-year-old male committed suicide.  The coroner was notified. 

6:26 p.m. – A laptop computer was reported stolen in the 1700 block of Center Road.  The reporting party’s nephew was doing work at the house today and he suspects that he may have taken it.  Two possible suspects were identified but neither was home or could be contacted by phone. 

7:31 p.m. – Two black men approximately 20 years of age wearing shirts and ties were reported ringing doorbells in the neighborhood.  The men were contacted and warned of soliciting violations.  Both were identified and released.
