Bomb Squad Called to Olompali Because of Artillery Shell in Driver's Car

A driver transported an old artillery shell before stopping Novato yesterday at Olompali State Park to wait for authorities to respond.


A Lake County man parked at Olompali State Park yesterday to wait for officials to respond after he transported an old artillery shell.

The man found the artillery shell on his property and decided to drive down to San Francisco with it and turn it over to the bomb squad UPI repo

A couple of hours into his journey the man had second thoughts and called officials. It was then that the California Highway Patrol instructed the man to pull over where he was away from traffic.

The man pulled off into Olompali State Park in Novato to await responders. The CHP, Novato firefighters and park officials met the man before calling in the bomb squad. After the bomb squad transported the shell to a safe location, the determined that the shell was inert and not posing any risk.

It is unknown if the driver will face any charges.
