Black Point Resident Faces Arson, Vandalism, Burglary Charges

Sheriff's deputies pull up to home and witness man burglarizing his roommates.

Two roommates at a Black Point home reported a third roommate ransacking their stuff, smashing a car window and trying to light their portion of the home on fire, a Marin County Sheriff's Office spokesman said.

Deputies were alerted to a man vandalizing a house on Beattie Avenue in unincorporated Novato at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, said Sgt. Mark Hale. The man, who occupied the downstairs portion of the home, was said to have destroyed and stolen items belonging to two upstairs occupants and broken the window on a car that didn't belong to him. The roommates told deputies the man attempted to light upstairs items on fire.

Kenneth Stateman, 55, was arrested at 5:32 p.m. and booked at Marin County Jail. He faces felony burglary, vandalism and attempted arson charges. On Tuesday, he was arraigned and had his bail set at $500,000, according to a story in the .
