Bike Rider, Car Collide on South Novato Blvd.

Man, 59, clipped as he is passing in front of St. Anthony church during morning commute. No major injuries reported.

A 59-year-old bicycle commuter collided with a car Monday morning, slowing traffic for a brief time while the man was placed into an ambulance and taken to a hospital for back pain, sources said.

The rider, who has not been identified, struck a car that was turning into on South Novato Boulevard at about 8:29 a.m., said Battalion Chief Jeff Veliquette of the . He said it was a low-speed impact and the man was not seriously injured.

Sgt. Eric Riddell said the collision is under investigation but that it appeared the bike rider hit the car, driven by a 42-year-old woman, that turned in front of him. He said there was one witness to the crash that needed to be interviewed before the cause of the crash was pinpointed.

The man told first responders that he was headed to work when the incident took place. Veliquette said the man might've suffered injuries to his lower extremities, but Riddell said the man just complained of back pain.
