Arrests Made with Help from PD's License Plate Readers

Car passing through Novato turns out to be stolen.

The automated license plate readers equipped on a few vehicles continue to pay off with significant arrests.

The latest? A stolen car was located early Saturday morning thanks to the car-mounted cameras purchased with grant money, and two arrests were made, Novato police said Tuesday.

An officer on patrol at 12:56 a.m. Saturday received a signal that a nearby vehicle was registered in a state database as stolen out of the Sacramento area on July 24, Sgt. Eric Riddell said in a release. The car was southbound on Highway 101 at the Atherton Avenue/San Marin Drive exit, and the officer pulled over the driver.

Lacey Paloma Cater, 22, of San Leandro was found to be driving with a suspended license and had a warrant out for her arrest for prostitution. Her passenger, Genaro Brandell Patterson, 46, of Sacramento, was a suspect in the vehicle theft. Both were booked at Marin County Jail and face felony charges, Riddell said.

Novato police's automated license plate readers were installed in early August on three patrol cars. They are used to assist officers in finding stolen vehicles.
