Neighbor's Call Results in Nabbing Hit-and-Run Suspect

The following information from June 27-30 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner: 

June 29, 11:56 p.m. – A hit-and-run misdemeanor was reported on Lauren Avenue.  A neighbor observed a dark sedan leaving a loud party in the neighborhood and then saw the vehicle strike another neighbor’s car.  The vehicle was last seen heading toward South Novato Boulevard.  The driver was stopped in the vicinity of Redwood Boulevard and Seascape Drive and then booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit and run. 

June 27

12:50 a.m. – A stolen vehicle was reported in the 100 block of Posada Del Sol.  Unknown(s) stole a white 1992 Honda Civic with a black hood.  The keys had been left in the vehicle. 

3:25 a.m. – A stolen vehicle was reported in the 400 block of Alameda Del Prado.  A silver Honda Civic was parked on the street last night and was last seen just before midnight.  All keys have been accounted for.

11:54 a.m. – A burglary was reported at a PG&E substation in the 100 block of Hamilton Drive.  Unknown(s) broke into a cargo container and stole a small aluminum boat that had been chained to the interior.  The estimated loss is $2000. 

1:13 p.m. – A stolen gray Honda Civic was reported recovered by Marin CHP. 

1:18 p.m. – A fraud was reported at a Western Union office in the 900 block of Diablo Avenue.  An elderly woman was trying to send $2,800 to someone that said she had won a prize.  The store did not allow her to send the money but she is worried that someone is going to come after her.  Officer(s) found that an unknown had called her and stated that her granddaughter had been arrested in Canada and that she needs to send money.  The call came from a blocked number.  There is no suspect information. 

7:01 p.m. – A fraud was reported in the 100 block of Oliva Court.  Unknown(s) fraudulently used the victim’s access card and Visa card to make purchases online. 

June 28 

4:03 a.m. – Officer(s) assisted a medical agency with a 69-year-old man who had reportedly fallen and was shaking.  He was awake and breathing.  The man apparently had a bike accident and sustained head injuries earlier in the evening.  No further need for NPD. 

10:49 a.m. – A fraud was reported in the 800 block of Reichert Avenue.  The reporting party said that unknown(s) had made fake checks using their account number.  A number of fake business checks were cashed at a Bank of America branch in San Francisco.

1:28 p.m. – A fraud was reported in the 400 block of Ignacio Boulevard.  A woman said that her daughter had written checks on the reporting party’s account and had opened other accounts in the reporting party’s name. 

2:44 p.m. – Vandalism was reported on Andreas Circle.  Unknown(s) damaged a victim’s vehicle window.  The vehicle glass was shattered, possibly from a projectile. 

2:54 p.m. – A man on Fawn Court pushed his wife while carrying their infant child.  The wife is declining medical attention.  The man was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence. 

3:11 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported in the 1400 block of Indian Valley Road.  A 14-year-old girl said she was walking with a friend and man drove by them three or four times.  The man never said anything but waved at the kids twice and lowered his sunglasses.  The reporting party and friend went to the residence nearest to them.  The reporting party described the man as Hispanic, in his 20s with pulled back hair.  He was driving a black Volkswagen Jetta. 

4:12 p.m. – Trespassing was reported in the 900 block of Diablo Avenue.  Officer(s) located the remnants of a homeless encampment along the east side of Novato Creek.  Beddings were also found under the bridge.  A “Notice of Trespassing and Clean-up” was posted. 

6:24 p.m. – A burglary was reported on Los Alondras Court.  The reporting party just returned home and found that the house had been gone through.  The front door was found unlocked.  Unknown(s) gained entry into the residence through a rear door that was unlocked.  Once inside, the unknown(s) rummaged through the residence and stole $10,000 in cash that was in an unlocked safe and an undetermined amount of jewelry. 

6:34 p.m. – A burglary was reported on Cherry Court.  The reporting party believes that a week ago unknown(s) broke into his house and took a gun. 

6:41 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the 1300 block of Monte Maria Avenue.  The reporting party said that the home was broken into between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.  The house had been ransacked and the rear door was found open.  The loss is unknown at this time. 

7:02 p.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported at the Novato Wellness Center in the 1700 block of Grant Avenue.  Taggings were found in spray paint and pen. 

8:17 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the 600 block of Rowland Boulevard.  Unknown(s) gained entry into a residence through a doggy door located in the garage.  Once inside, the unknown(s) stole a laptop and an undisclosed amount of jewelry. 

9:14 p.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported in the 900 block of Seventh Street.  Taggings were found in pen and spray paint. 

June 29 

7:37 a.m. – Domestic violence was reported in the 100 block of Ignacio Boulevard.  The reporting party said that his wife threw a lighter at him causing injury.  Officer(s) found that the suspect and victim were boy friend and girl friend who live together.  They were involved in an argument that resulted in the man grabbing the victim with his hands and shaking her.  There was no visible injury.  The man provided a false name to officer(s) to avoid an outstanding felony no-bail warrant.  The man was booked into Marin County Jail. 

10:34 a.m. – A burglary was reported in the 500 block of San Marin Drive.  The reporting party said that some checks were stolen and then written out an employee’s roommate.  The checks were cashed at an unknown WestAmerica branch. 

3:09 p.m. – Trespassers were provided with a “Trespassing and Clean Up" notice in the vicinity of Diablo Avenue and Novato Boulevard. 

5:09 p.m. – A suspicious vehicle was reported in the vicinity of WestAmerica bank in the 7300 block of Redwood Boulevard.  The occupants of a white Cadillac Escalade asked the reporting party if he wanted to buy some stereo systems.  They had multiple stereos in the back of the vehicle.  The reporting party described the two as white men between the ages of 23 and 27.  One was last seen wearing a white shirt and the other a gray shirt. 

6:43 p.m. – A burglary was reported on Hathaway Drive.  Unknown(s) broke into a green Honda Civic through a malfunctioning window.  The loss is a cell phone, a passport, and a Social Security card. 

7:29 p.m. – A fraud was reported on Birchwood Drive.  Unknown(s) fraudulently charged $281.79 to the victim’s debit card via an online purchase. 

10:24 p.m. – A man in the 400 block of San Andreas Drive was arrested and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence. 

June 30 

1:02 a.m. – A man was arrested on suspicion of public drunkenness in the 1000 block of First Street.  

1:51 a.m. – A resident reported shots fired in the vicinity of Center Road and Wilmac Avenue.  The reporting party heard only one shot.  The area was checked and officer(s) were unable to locate anything suspicious. 

7:02 a.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported in the 1900 block of Marion Avenue.   A reporting party said that three teenagers were observed looking into neighborhood vehicles.  One of them attempted to open a neighbor’s vehicle.  The reporting party described the teens as two Hispanic’s and one black.  One wore dark baggy jeans and a hoodie. 

7:05 a.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported on Grande Vista Drive.  Three teenage boys were seen trying to open car doors.  The reporting party described them as three black boys between the ages of 19 and 20.  One wore a red hat, black leather jacket and a gray hoodie. 

2:15 p.m. – Two homeless persons were reported causing a disturbance behind a business in the 800 block of Grant Avenue.  One was carrying an electric guitar.  One was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of causing a disturbance and a violation of probation. 

4:03 p.m. – A burglary was reported at Costco in the 300 block of Vintage Way.  Two people were observed in the clothing area concealing DVD’s.   A man and woman were arrested and booked on suspicion of burglary. 

7:25 p.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 100 block of Bolling Circle.  Unknown(s) shattered the driver’s side window of a victim’s car.  The victim noted that another vehicle in the carport area also had its window shattered.  The window appeared to have been shot with a BB gun.  Nothing was reported missing from the car.

11:54 p.m. – A party complaint was made in the 100 block of San Carlos Way.  There was no merit to a party at the original location.  Three people were contacted at Miwok Park were cooperative and were moved along.  No evidence of other parties in the area. 

11:57 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported in the 1500 block of South Novato Boulevard.  A group of six was seen climbing the fence into Pini Ace Hardware to the rear of the business.  All were wearing dark clothing.  Officer(s) check the area and saw several juveniles running from the area.  The building appeared to be secure.
