A Rash of Suspicious and Unwanted Persons

The following information from Dec. 12–14 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Dec. 12

8:29 a.m. – A fraud was reported on Holstrom Circle.  A victim’s Chase Bank card was used without authorization in Northridge and Santa Barbara. 

9:43 a.m. – A suspicious person was reported in the Safeway parking lot on Diablo Avenue.  A man of unknown race was smoking pot as he walked through the parking lot.  He was last seen wearing a black beanie, a dark sweatshirt and baggy jeans.  He may have been headed for the area between Pennzoil and Rite Aid. The man was gone on arrival and could not be located.

10:16 a.m. – A welfare check was requested for a suspicious person in the 1600 block of Grant Avenue.  He was described as a white man, medium weight, and was wearing a baseball cap and a black jacket. He had blood on his face and was ranting, yelling and cursing as he paced back and forth. The man was gone on arrival and could not be located. 

2:24 p.m. – A fraud was reported at Lucky on Grant Avenue.  A victim’s debit card was used without authorization in central California. 

4:29 p.m. – A fraud was reported in the 1000 block of Sixth Street.  A woman said she has paperwork from DirecTV that shows she has been a victim of theft. 

5:29 p.m. – An assault and battery was reported at San Marin High School.  A boy pushed his mother at the school and she fell to the ground.  The 16-year-old is on probation and was advised he could be cited and taken to juvenile hall.  The boy assured his parents he would follow rules and apologized. 

9:35 p.m. – A welfare check was requested at the Lucky store on Grant Avenue after a person was seen walking around the store with blood on him. There was no crime involved and the subject was moved along. 

10:07 p.m. – A probation search of a person staying at the America’s Best Value Inn on Redwood Boulevard resulted in one person being cited for possession of a crack pipe. 

11:27 p.m. – A person in the vicinity of Diablo Avenue and Hill Road was taken to a detox center. 

Dec. 13 

9:02 a.m. – A suspicious person was reported in the 1500 block of South Novato Boulevard.  A black man wearing a big dark gray jacket with an unknown logo on the back was seen waving a baton and screaming and yelling at unknown people. The man was gone on arrival and could not be located. 

12:35 p.m. – Two students at Marin Oaks High School on Diablo Avenue were in the school office and reported to be in possession of marijuana.  They were issued citations for public intoxication and possession. 

12:43 p.m. – A suspicious person was reported in the vicinity of the Safeway store on Nave Drive.  He was seen looking into vehicles.  He was described as a white male 30 to 35 years old and was last seen wearing a sports jacket. The man was gone on arrival and could not be located. 

1:56 p.m. – Unwanted persons were reported in the 1500 block of Center Road.  A man and a woman were on a first floor balcony at an apartment complex and were screaming the “N” word and challenging people to fight.  The man was drinking beer and had a white hat.  Both were described as white and wearing black leathers and jeans. Both were gone on arrival and could not be located. 

2:23 p.m. – A fraud was reported in the 1200 block of Lynwood Drive.  The victim said he lost his credit card in Seattle and he now has numerous charges on his account.  Unknown(s) used his card without authorization to purchase merchandise in various out of state stores. 

5:27 p.m. – An unwanted person was reported at 20/20 Optical on Nave Drive.  A man has come into the store four times that day and harassed an employee.  He was described as white, in his 70s, white hair, very tall and wearing a black jacket.  Officer(s) conducted an area check and made contact with a possible match who said he would not return to the store. 

Dec. 14 

3:45 a.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported at the America’s Best Value Inn on Redwood Boulevard.  A person at the front desk said that some people were beat up by men in a suspect red Mustang GT.  Officer(s) contacted multiple people and none were cooperative.  A disturbance occurred somewhere on the property but no cooperative witnesses were located.  The people contacted were identified and moved along. 

4:58 a.m. – A petty theft was reported in the 200 block of Kelly Drive.  Unknown(s) entered an unlocked vehicle and took unspecified items.  

4:59 a.m. – A petty theft was reported on Nave Court.  Unknown(s) entered an unlocked vehicle and took unspecified items. 

4:59 a.m. – A petty theft was reported in the 200 block of Vintage Way.  A cell phone was stolen. 

5:00 a.m. – A petty theft was reported on Rowland Way.  A cell phone was stolen. 

5:00 a.m. – A petty theft was reported on Inyo Circle.  Unspecified items were stolen from a storage unit. 

9:03 a.m. – A burglary was reported in the 600 block of Bugeia Lane.  A commercial tool shed was broken into overnight.  The locks were cut and gasoline was taken.  The loss was about $75. 

9:04 a.m. – A burglary was reported in the 900 block of Diablo Avenue.  A passport camera was stolen from a business.  A suspect was captured on surveillance video.  The camera is valued at over $2,000.  There is an ongoing investigation. 

10:33 a.m. – A fraud was reported on Aram Court.  A victim wired money to a person in Utah for a transaction that was never completed.  It appears a false company perpetrated a scam via Craigslist.  The case will be forwarded to Salt Lake City police. 

12:40 p.m. – A suspicious person was reported on Rowland Way.  A suspect in the theft of a wallet from an office building on Rowland Way was spotted on foot heading toward the shopping center.  He was seen on surveillance video and was confirmed to be the same person involved in the theft by an employee of the business where the theft occurred. He was described as a black man with dreadlocks, and last seen wearing a black T-shirt with a white T-shirt underneath, black pants and blue shoes.  An area check for the man met with negative results. 

1:53 p.m. – An identity theft was reported on Bishop Court.  Unknown(s) used the victim’s debit card and opened accounts. 

1:58 p.m. – A burglary was reported on Reichert Court. The victims had been on a walk and when they returned home the saw people running out the door.  

2:42 p.m. – A resident on the 1100 block of Elm Drive was assaulted by a neighborhood kid who struck the victim multiple times on the head and shoulder area.  The youth also made threats to kill the victim.  The man sustained a small laceration to his left ear.  The juvenile could not be located. 

4:08 p.m. – Unwanted persons were reported at the library on Novato Boulevard.  A group of about 20 people were banging on the walls of the building.  They were described as a mixed group of adults and teens, male and female.  A small group in the pit area dispersed upon police presence.  No violations were observed. 

4:08 p.m. – A welfare check was requested on elderly residents in the 1000 block of Sixth Street.  A white man told the reporting party that he was a caregiver while he was yelling at someone to the rear of the house.  The house was observed to be filthy and full of feces. The odor was overwhelmed and concerned.  Children and Family Services removed the children and a complaint was filed for child endangerment. 

7:38 p.m. – A burglary was reported on Spinosa Way. A TV, laptop and a black Toyota Camry were stolen from a resident’s garage.  It is unknown if there are other losses at this time.
