6-Year-Old Calls Mom About Passed-Out Dad

Selected calls from the log books of Novato PD, March 3–4

March 3 

2:13 a.m. – A subject was arrested and booked for driving under the influence in the vicinity of Bolling Circle and March Field Court. 

10:18 a.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported on Gothic Drive.  A black marker was used to deface the victim’s fence with large block letters.

11:54 a.m. – Vandalism was reported at the Bank of America on the 1600 block of Grant Avenue.  Unknown suspect(s) used an unknown projectile, possibly a BB gun to damage a window over night.  Estimated damage is $1,000. 

2:01 p.m. – A vehicle was reported vandalized on Livingston Court.  Unknown subject(s) smashed out the driver’s side window of vehicle sometime between 8 p.m. on March 2 and 7:30 a.m. the following day.

3:22 p.m. – A welfare check was requested on a man approximately 60 years of age who was attempting to go into the wrong rooms at the Travelodge on Redwood Boulevard.  Subject was in the office, appeared disoriented and was only wearing underwear.  Subject was transported to Novato Community Hospital. 

6:05 p.m. – A reporting party requested an emergency protection order for a juvenile son at Novato High School.  Reporting party has no suspect info and is worried for the son’s safety.  Advice was given. 

March 4 

6:54 a.m. – A welfare check was requested for a possible homeless man sleeping in the third-floor hallway of an apartment building in the 1500 block of Center Road.  Two homeless subjects were moved along. 

12:51 p.m. – An assault and battery was reported at Hill Middle School on Diablo Avenue.  Two juveniles were involved in a fight on the school campus and were admonished regarding their involvement in a scuffle.  No injuries were incurred.  Suspensions were issued and parents were contacted. 

12:57 p.m. – A petty theft was reported in the 400 block of Norman Drive.  The reporting party believes that a former employee came into the office and took a personnel file and deleted the same file from the reporting party’s computer overnight. 

3:56 p.m. – A resident reported that a homeless encampment in an easement near her home on the 700 block of Olive Avenue was responsible for thefts from her garage.  Officers located a tent and bedroll near the fence of the reporting party’s property.  Beat units will check location later at night. 

5:33 p.m. – A group of approximately 20 were reported to be in a fight in the 2400 block of Novato Boulevard.  Units contacted several subjects.  None were involved in fight but were spectators to two unknown males involved.  Witnesses stated there were no injuries or weapons used. 

6:11 p.m. – A juvenile disturbance was reported at Pioneer Park on Simmons Lane.  Three juveniles were reported drinking alcohol in the creek past the tennis courts.  Two girls were contacted and advised of complaint.  No merit to any violations. 

7 p.m. – A lot of people were reported in a fight in the vicinity of an apartment building in the 1100 block of Elm Drive.  No fight was located.  A subject was arrested for public drunkenness and transported to the Marin County Jail. 

8:17 p.m. – The driver of a white Cadillac was reported swerving and unable to maintain lanes on Highway 101 exiting at Bel Marin Keys.  Subject was arrested for driving under the influence and booked into Marin County Jail. 

11:09 p.m. – A mother in the vicinity of Hawthorne Terrace reported getting a call from her 6-year-old daughter that her dad wasn’t waking up.  The father of the child was very intoxicated and passed out on the kitchen floor.  The father refused medical attention.  The mother of the juvenile responded and took custody of the child.
