3 Arrested for Suspected DUI at Saturday Night Checkpoint

More than 1,000 drivers were screened just steps from the Novato PD station.

Out of 1,023 drivers screened, the made three arrests for suspicion of drunken driving and issued 25 citations for unlicensed driving at a sobriety and registration checkpoint Jan. 14.

Police set up the grant-funded checkpoint at De Long Avenue at Redwood Boulevard. From 6 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday, officers conducted 42 field sobriety tests, yielding the three arrests. Five citations were issued to drivers with suspended licenses and nine vehicles were towed. In addition, officers cited four drivers for moving violations.

At the in Novato, two arrests were made for suspected DUI out of 723 drivers screened Nov. 23 at a checkpoint at South Novato Boulevard at South Redwood Boulevard. Officers conducted 15 field sobriety tests, issued seven citations for unlicensed drivers and six for suspended licenses.

At a , 583 drivers were screened and 18 field sobriety tests were issued on South Novato Boulevard near Sunset Parkway, but nobody was handcuffed for DUI.
