2 Crashes Tie Up Highway 101 Traffic in Novato

One wreck north of the Redwood Landfill sends two to hospital.

Two crashes on northbound Highway 101 tied up traffic in Novato on Saturday morning and into the afternoon, sources said.

At 10:13 a.m., a crash involving three or four vehicles took place near the Silveira Ranch, about one mile north of the Redwood Landfill, according to the California Highway Patrol. A traffic alert was issued at 10:40 a.m. and cancelled at 11.

One person suffered a broken arm and another had a laceration, and both were transported to hospitals by Novato Fire District medics, said Battalion Chief Gerald McCarthy.

One lane in both the northbound and southbound directions were temporarily shut down as emergency crews responded, the CHP said. Northbound traffic backed up well into Novato, McCarthy said.

At 12:08 p.m., two cars tangled on northbound 101 between the De Long and San Marin exits in Novato, McCarthy said. No one was transported with injuries, but one vehicle sustained major damage and was undriveable. he said. The cars blocked the No. 2 lane, and traffic passed by the wreck on both sides, McCarthy said.
