Put Down the Pen; Step Away from the NUSD Emergency Card

Let's hear it for no more hand cramping as we complete back-to-school packets.

My two oldest kids are going to be at Novato High next year. It's with mixed emotions that we received the inch-thick packet of materials a couple of days ago. "Mixed" in that I'm happy dancing at the thought of their return to school and they are...not so much.

But before I can get their sorry butts out of bed before noon, I need to wade through 28 individual forms and fliers and booklets and letters. That is twenty-eight, as in just two pieces short of thirty.

So it's no surprise that I nearly missed the missive from Superintendent Shalee Cunningham telling me I don't have to fill out the darn NUSD Emergency Card -- in duplicate, no less. I can just log into my kids' Aeries accounts and make any changes online. Online! What a concept!

Okay, yeah, I still need to sign the form from Dr. Cunningham swearing that I have updated the information. But that will take all of 10 seconds as opposed to the lengthy process of writing out that Emergency Card. Twice. For each of three kids.

I'm stepping up my happy dancing.
