The best we can do

I have a few friends with whom I feel safe talking about politics, particularly given that we often disagree. The other day, a friend and I spent the better part of an amazing hike at Tennessee Valley talking about foreign affairs and who would be the best candidate to replace Bernanke. We had a lot of fun and ended up on the same place that we always do, the final say is in the actions and votes of those who we elected. This time though we additional thought jumped out of our brains and mouths: "This being the case, our best bet is to vote for candidates with principles that animate our dreams". This leaves with the question of understand what is it that we dream for?
