Community Update

The Novato Federation of Teachers would like to announce that we are officially endorsing Miguel Garza and Derek Knell for School Board Trustees in the upcoming election on November 5.  Miguel is a new candidate; he is a Hamilton parent with three children in NUSD who is very involved with his school and community. I have heard great things about him from Hamilton teachers who know him.  Additionally, he is a member of the negotiating team of the Union that he belongs to; the Marin Association of Public Employees, so we believe that he will bring a readiness to stand up for the working people of NUSD.  Derek is a current incumbent on NUSD’s School Board who has been part of the recent positive movement toward interest-based bargaining, which has allowed the Superintendent, CFO, and Director of Human resources to sit at the table with NFT and work together toward real solutions to the challenges we face.  His voting record also shows that he supports equity between teachers and administration which is an important issue to us.  Novato Federation of Teachers encourages you to speak to friends, neighbors, and family to get out the vote on November 5th. These elections are the opportunity for your voice to be heard in a decision that will affect us for the next four years- make it count.
